There are people whose idea of an April Fools Day prank is to offer good news and then snatch it away. That is not funny. That is you being a shithead. If you want to play goodnatured practical jokes, fine, whatever. But don’t go taunting people about how much something sucks by offering them false hope for your own sick enjoyment. ---

One of my Facebook friends decided telling everyone he only has 3 to 6 months to live would be a funny joke today. I fail to see the humor. April Fools is silly. It doesn’t even have a color. ---

I think I’ve seen a thread like this before, maybe not in context of April Fool’s Day. Anyway, I agree. Fooling someone _can_ be quite funny. Having them suffer a crushing disappointment (or, conversely, making them suffer unwarranted despair) is decidedly not. On a perhaps somewhat related note, I’d hate to receive some big news, good _or_ bad, on April 1st, because who can you share it with? Who’d believe you? ---

While I agree with the OP, I have the opposite complaint. People who are doing jokes without even the pretense of trying to trick people. I know people have become more savvy at detecting jokes, but it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try. You can be silly every day of the year. April Fool’s is a bit more than that.’ I also hate how many sites end their stuff before you have a chance to find them. I finally was up at 4:00 today, and I still missed the majority of tricks. And, yes, a large amount of them are already gone. They do know the only-until-noon thing is not celebrated in America, right? ---

It’s better than the German equivalent day, when people walk around with scissors and cut off your tie. If you’re an American and unaware of this tradition, you’re going to be very unhappy that you wore your best French silk tie that day. ---

I do actually agree with the OP - April Fool’s Day is no excuse to be mean and thoughtless. It’s supposed to be silly fun, not things that make people cry. ---
