Um, not to ruin things for you, but lots of stuff today is more expensive than it was “back in the day”.

Wait’ll you hear what college costs these days!

When I stopped at the drive-thru window of a Taco Bell last week there was a sign, _For safety reasons we will not serve anyone not in a vehicle._

I couldn’t tell if it had been there a while or installed in the past few weeks.

Franchisees still have to answer to corporate. Most people don’t even have any way of knowing who the local franchisee is. It’s only been relatively recently that calling corporate about a problem at the local restaurant sometimes results in being told to contact the franchise owner. About six or seven years ago my wife called Sonic corporate about frequent speed/quality problems. Corporate told her they’d had multiple complaints and that they were in the process of taking away the owner’s franchise. About two weeks later we learned that they’d taken it away and sold it to another owner in a nearby town. Service was much better after that.

Weak pitting.

You’re pitting people that during a global pandemic are making your meal. Get over your mistaken order.

You can say that again. Oh wait . . .

Anyway, I can relate to the OP’s frustration. Every fast food sandwich I order has modifications and if it’s messed up, I won’t eat it. I quickly check the bag if there’s no one behind me but if there is, I just pull into a space in the parking lot to check. Won’t help the OP’s last experience but it will save future disappointment.

I like it. It’s nice to see these totally pointless pittings with no stakes or anything, for something small.

I’ll add that I hate my BK for deciding that the grilled chicken shouldn’t be sold anymore. It’s the only restaurant I know of that sold grilled chicken that has taken it off the menu. Also, it tastes better than most.

Yeah, yeah, they likely just weren’t selling at this particular location, and they took the chicken recall as a time to change inventory. Still doesn’t make it not annoying that I can’t get my favorite fast food item, even before the pandemic started. (it started in January, before COVID-19 was a pandemic.)

It’s not a real gripe. It’s more something too small to go even in the mini-rants. This could be a “tiny, tiny gripes” thread, or even “tiny food gripes.”

I’m on a diet that coincidentally started around the time the lockdowns started. (It really was a coincidence; I had planned to start right after my vacation to Vegas ended, and my vacation was around St. Patty’s Day.) So I’m largely not dealing with any of this stuff right now.

In the past I’ve had messed-up orders from any and all places, but Burger King is usually one of the better places. I think my worst experiences have been at Jack in the Box, which is the only fast food joint that ever overcharged me and then didn’t want to compensate me. (They took a buy one get one free coupon from me, then rang up my purchase, and then after I got the receipt told me they couldn’t accept the coupon, then their manager admitted the coupon should have applied and it was their mistake but they can’t do a refund from the till and wouldn’t do anything else for me. Assholes.)

Funny enough, McDonald’s was the place that screwed up my order more times than any other place, but almost always to my benefit. They used to routinely give me extra food I didn’t order or pay for, like an extra french fry or sandwich. One time I ordered two salads at the counter (to go), and was charged $2, and I insisted that just one salad cost more than $2, but they argued that they put it in the register properly and that’s the amount it said so that’s how much I need to pay. I warned them that they could get in trouble by undercharging me and I wanted to pay the correct and honest amount, but they put their foot down and insisted it was $2. I didn’t want it to turn into a fight or delay people behind me so I sighed and paid the $2.

Then when they brought out my salads to go, there were 4 of them in the bag. I didn’t even say a word, I just took it and left.

FYI, as a coronavirus gesture, Burger King is offering free delivery on orders of $10 or more. I wonder if they would’ve brought a new one to your house if you had called them?

Bicycles are vehicles although you are not ‘in’ one arguably. But then you wouldn’t be ‘in’ a motorcycle either.

Anyway, if they don’t want bicycles, then the sign should be clearer.

True, but I highly doubt corporate is reading this thread. 🙂

Pit the local BK(s) but make direct contact with corporate.

I agree, what a jerk! Instead of posting his gripe on a semi-anonymous message board in a forum dedicated to gripes, he should go to the restaurant in question and throw the food at the workers. Perhaps stomp up and down and shout. And definitely call up the franchise owner and demand the jobs and/or limbs of the workers in question.

Eh, I think it is just as likely that the cashier hit the wrong button (“no” vs “only” (I don’t know what the BK entry screen looks like, but I would try to design those buttons in if it were me)). Mistakes happen, and that is why we have the pit (although this would have fit nicely into the mini-rants thread).

Confession: my kids like McDonalds food and I indulge them in it from time to time. (Or, used to, they don’t leave the house these days.) The workers there are minimally trained and often get orders wrong. Learn to check quickly when you get the order.

But, it helps them a lot if you learn to speak their language. For example: “hamburger, ketchup ONLY”, or “cheeseburger, NO ketchup, NO mustard, ADD leaf lettuce”. Speak slowly and clearly, and stress the operative words “ONLY”, “NO”, “ADD”. You’re telling them exactly what buttons to push, at the speed they can push them. At some random McD’s off the interstate we’d never been to before, the teenage cashier (we were inside for a bathroom break as well) thanked me, saying “You make it easy to put in the order!” And the manager smiled and winked at me. Not my proudest moment. :o

Of course, even when the order is placed correctly, the assemblers don’t always read the directions correctly. Still go to check what you get.

They also had ice cream sundaes with bacon on them.

> **[Burger King Unveils New Bacon Ice Cream Sundae | The Mary Sue](https://www.themarysue.com/burger-king-bacon-ice-cream-sundae/)**
>
> Among the pulled pork sandwich and sweet potato fries found on Burger King's new limited edition summer menu, sits a simple, yet odd item one may have assumed would've never been put on offer at a national food chain: The bacon ice cream sundae.

They weren’t awful but I hated them for it because I expected it to either be fantastic or disgusting. It was neither. If you ate the ice cream with the bacon together it just tasted wrong; they didn’t complement each other and weren’t transformative or anything. It just tasted like ice cream with something that didn’t belong.

I ended up taking out the bacon and eating it alone, which was fine, it was bacon. I then ate the sundae without the bacon which was fine, it was a sundae. But it felt like a waste of my time and was definitely a let-down. I expected “something” from the experience and got nothing out of it.

So to Hell with Burger King for that.

According to [wiki:](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Canadian_and_American_economies#cite_note-KPMG_2018-7)

> [@](#):

> According to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)'s 2018 report, Canadians pay lower personal income taxes than Americans.[6] According to KPMG the corporate tax rate in Canada was 26.50% compared to 27% in the United States based on January 2018 data

Anyoos, I’d lke to pit the OP for not only quite deleteriously saying catsup instead of ketchup, but also for taking fast food home so that the fries get cold.
