I never knew we had so many moronic jerks who screw goats in public.

I thank all of the Board theologians for agreeing with me that Monday-Sunday calendars are evil.

> Bah, how can people even conceive the idea that weeks start on Sunday? That’s just plain wrong. I’m with **Martini Enfield** on this one. I’ve never even seen a calendar claiming otherwise.

Check your computer’s calendar. Mine starts on a Sunday. Maybe it’s an American thing to start the calendar on a Sunday, but I can’t recall seeing a domestic calendar that starts on a Monday.

(Looking on [timeanddate.com](http://timeanddate.com), it does seem the American and Canadian starts on Sunday, but the UK and New Zealand calendar starts on Monday. For that matter, it seems most of Europe starts it on Monday. However, it also seems to start the Australian calendar on a Sunday, but I’m guessing given the responses above, that’s incorrect. edit: [Actually, this person here](http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/aspnet/32997181/calendar-starts-on-monday.aspx) agrees that calendars in Australia should start on a Sunday. So what’s the deal?)

Even my computer’s calendar starts on Monday (yay for localization).

I’m in Europe, and since we set the standards, weeks start on Mondays. The big bang was on a Monday, and the bible does not even conform to ISO specifications.

There is nothing anyone can say that will convince me that Sunday is the start of the week in the modern world, though.

The calendar on my Windows Sidebar starts on Monday, FWIW.

Has there ever been a recorded case of Sundayitis? Even one??

See…add that LACK to the plethora of evidence for Mondayitis and you have a substantiated reason for keeping the calendar the way it is. If you start mucking around with the standard week thingy, workers will work themselves into a worry about what day to pull a sickie…and then they’ll REALLY get sick, and that won’t help productivity at all will it??

😃

Monday to Sunday is better though, you start on Monday, and then you can plan your weekend across the two days at the end of the row. Its perfectly logical to me.

Exactly right!
So let’s add that to the standardization to do list:

[li]SI Units[/li][li]UN world government[/li][li]Calendars starting on Monday[/li][/ol]

Number one on your list is already achieved except for a few backwards countries (Myanmar, Liberia and USA). I am not sure where the priority should be placed between the other items though.

In my world Monday-Friday are work days. Saturday and Sunday are WEEKENDS. I want my calendar to reflect this.

My calendar can’t start with Sunday because that’s a WEEKEND day.

You should have your calendar any way it suits you but if you decide it starts on a Sunday you need to find a new name for the WEEKEND. 🙂

Just wanted to add to the feeling that the Americans are in the minority here, mentioning the UN was togue-in-cheek but that’s an idea I also support.

I don’t care what day they start on, as long as it conforms to a universal standard.

Which too often they don’t.

I prefer Sunday starts only because of tradition. I began encountering Monday start calendars somewhere around the late 80s, and ever since they momentarily confuse me through at-a-glance use.

> This may be the first Pit thread I’ve ever started. I’ve avoided starting them in the past because from my observation, even the most reasonable Pits, such as “I pit the mass murderer who massacred my family on Christmas Eve,” invariably degenerates into “The OP is a moronic jerk who screws goats in public.”

You say that like it is a bad thing. This is what the Pit is all about.

Anyways, as much as I disagree with you and I like my calendars with sundays on the right, after the saturday, for practical reasons, the theory says you are right.

According to [my sources](http://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/5001/5001_01.asp), God did start creating the Sun, in a day that would make then sense to call SUNday. The system breaks after that, of course. Moonday should be the fourth day. And Twosday, of course, should be the second one. Fryday should be the fifth day when God created all the creature we fry (fish and fowl). The rest of the days are not clear. Maybe something was lost in translation.

ETA: Notice that God must have been a caveman since Satan looks a lot like the GEICO lizard.

</div>

If you ask me, Friday and Saturday constitute the actual weekend anyway, because those are the days on which you actually do weekend-ish things. Sunday is just a shitty little parcel of time where you can’t do anything because most everything is closed for no reason. You get up late – provided you didn’t have to stave off umpteen calls from people who’ve not yet realized that you are NOT FUCKING GOING TO CHURCH – but you can’t stay up late unless you want to be dead tired on Monday, so you end up just sitting around for a few hours watching football until you go to sleep again.

Fuck Sunday. Worse than Monday, IMNSHO, because at least Monday gets you one step closer to Friday (which, if you’ll recall, is the first day of the real weekend).

So, start the calendar on Sunday, and your week runs downhill all the way.

**Sapo** I honestly though your [source](http://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/5001/5001_01.asp) was a parody until I took a closer look at the website. Nonetheless very funny, although it doesn’t really explain what happened to all the Tyrannosaurus rex?

It’s already been pointed out by **Henrichek** that the Big Bang was known to occur on a Monday morning at about 13.7 billion years ago some time before breakfast. Can it seriously take you that long to change your calendars? And don’t even get me started on the chronological nightmare of the American date format - MM/DD/YYYY??? It’s like quoting time in minutes - seconds - hours.

The whole thing with starting a week on Sunday is proof positive of why religious people shouldn’t be allowed to make policy.
