If your daughter wants another cat, consider going with a ragamuffin or ragdoll, both breeds are very social and love to be cuddled. My mom’s ragamuffin is one of the sweetest animals I have ever met, and likes to groom members of her family.

> I once went to an old lady’s house with my grandmother. When I sat down, her cat came up to my leg in the way that cats do. Then, the cat jumped into my lap and just sat there while I gently pet it. The old lady was amazed because she said the cat didn’t like other people in general. The next few milliseconds were a blur but the cat struck like a cobra and chomped down on my thumb hard and then shredded my arm with its claws for no reason. I have been bitten and scratched by cats many, many times and this was nothing like that. I was bleeding a little and had to wear long-sleeve shirts for a couple of weeks.
>
> That cat lied to me even though it couldn’t speak and it was a sociopath on top of that. Ted Bundy often used similar tactics.

You do know what anthropomorphism is, don’t you? That’s what you’re doing here. And you’re taking it waaaaaaaaaaay too personally. I had a feral cat who was sitting in my lap purring one second turn and attack my face. Put me in the hospital for two days and made me look like I went 9 rounds with Evander Holyfield. But somehow, I manage not to judge the billions of other cats in the world by that one fucked up, probably damaged cat. If you judged people the way you have judged cats based on one bad experience, you’d never leave the house, dude. Lighten up.

On the topic if feline loyalty: out of my 6 cats, two will love anyone, one will love most people, and three won’t let anyone pet them but my husband and me. They reserve their love and affection only for the people who take care of them and who they trust. They’re not attention whores like, um, you know… dogs. I find that to be a better example of loyalty than anything. That, and the fact that they always give me the best parts of their kill when they catch something.

Cats are awesome. People who hate cats generally have something wrong with them. I’m just gonna say that and expect to get shit for it, but that is my belief and it has been borne out time and time again.

Damn fine piece of responsible action shooting the beast in my opinion.

> Still, for economy you can’t beat the old truss-'em-up-in-a-sack and toss into the pond. You can recycle the sack.

I know different states are involved, and I live in one that may be more evolved, but where I come from, killing a cat by any method other than what is considered “humane” by state law (which includes only people like veterinarians, other veterinary staff, and people authorized by the Ill. Dept. of Agrigulture, and the humane methods they are allowed to use) is a felony 4. Perhaps not the same as murder 1, but jailtime nonetheless.

That includes any cat, whether feral or housebound, same as dogs and horses.

We like our companion animals around here, and their condition whether we consider them mean or not is a direct result of their human experience or lack thereof. Their state of being is entirely our responsibility. Until all people get that, the suffering of animals will continue. It sounds like _ **Shag** _ qualified his methods, and in my opinion it sounds like the cat did not suffer, but still felony-level illegal these days.

Doing what I do, every day, I couldn’t lurk without leaving my own mark…

Sure, if:
fun = kill native birds
frolic = ‘mark territory’

That said, if the cats are kept in the house or at least on the property, I have few complaints. Some cats are attention speaking, ungrateful brats, but the same can be said about some dogs (and some people, I suppose)

> Yes, Cat diary:
>
> November 21st: I have noticed that many humans are unaware of the movement of small mammals and insects. I am available to deal with these problems. I have an easy solution to the rat problem: swallow the fuckers whole. The humans mess about with “traps” and “poison”, not realising that the only way to kill these fast-moving renegades is to snap their neck with one’s jaws.
>
> I don’t understand how the dog pays the rent. Making a “clunk” sound with one’s jaw scarcely counts. Slobbering in the face of humans, and making a determined effort to explore their genitals with one’s nose seems to be seen by humans as unpleasant. Perhaps they’d like me if I behaved like a goofy lunatic, but I have my pride.

DAY 752 - My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while I am forced to eat dry cereal. The only thing that keeps me going is the hope of escape, and the mild satisfaction I get from shredding the occasional piece of furniture. Tomorrow I may eat another houseplant and cough it up on the carpeting.

DAY 761 - Today my attempt to kill my captors by weaving around their feet while they were walking almost succeeded, must try this at the top of the stairs. In an attempt to disgust and repulse these vile oppressors, I once again induced myself to vomit on their favorite chair…must try this on their bed (again).

DAY 762 - Slept all day so that I could annoy my captors with sleep depriving, incessant pleas for food at ungodly hours of the night.

DAY 765 - Decapitated a mouse and brought them the headless body, in an attempt to make them aware of what I am capable of, and to try to strike fear into their hearts. They only cooed and condescended about what a good little cat I was…Hmmm. Not working according to plan…

DAY 768- I am finally aware of how sadistic they are. For no good reason I was chosen for the water torture. This time however it included a burning foamy chemical called “shampoo”. What sick minds could invent such a liquid. My only consolation is the piece of thumb still stuck between my teeth and the tiny bit of flesh under my claws.

DAY 771 - There was some sort of gathering of their accomplices. I was placed in solitary throughout the event. However, I could hear the noise and smell the foul odor of the glass tubes they call “beer.” More importantly I overheard that my confinement was due to MY power of “allergies”. Must learn what this is and how to use it to my advantage.

DAY 774 - I am convinced the other captives are flunkies and maybe snitches. The Dog is routinely released and seems more than happy to return. He is obviously a half-wit. The Bird on the other hand has got to be an informant. He has mastered their frightful tongue (something akin to mole speak) and speaks with them regularly. I am certain he reports my every move. Due to his current placement in the metal room his safety is assured. But I can wait, it is only a matter of time

Oh piss off! I don’t know **Shagnasty** from Adam, but this seems to be stretching it.
From the facts provided:

(1) The thing was tormenting his pets.

(2) He seems to have put a very quick and final end to it by using a shotgun. Not much chance of an animal that size lingering in pain after a shotgun blast.

(3) Nowhere does it say he got the pleasure from the act of killing for the sake of it. Hell, he’d have been shooting his pets if that was so. It was quite likely the satisfaction he got from protecting his pets from a tormentor.

And **Shagnasty** , man, all that bollocks about Ted Bundy comes across to me as the sort of overstatement people always seem to feel obliged to make in the pit to gain kudos. If it is, it’s sure as hell not working for you.

How did he know this cat was a stray? He was also letting his cats outside. How does he know they weren’t going over to this cat’s house and tormenting it? How would he feel if his neighbor blew his cat away?

Upon consideration, he probably wouldn’t care, so I don’t know why I even bother making the point, but… when it’s your cat, it’s just an outdoor cat. When it’s someone else’s cat, it’s an annoying stray you can shoot and feel good about it. Sure, whatever.

Could the thread possibly agree the whole cat-hate thing is mostly Shagnasty acting out his typical asshole board persona? At worst he’s a painfully predictable internet schmuck. I can’t remember a single post of his that’s amounted to much more than thinly veiled anger/trolling. Shagnasty, gatopescado, etc. unhappy, spoiling for a fight and proud of it, rile the faceless losers who care about critters 'cause I _kill_ 'em, and so what if I don’t really, the horror and hubub is worth it, fucking losers…

Trolls do it because otherwise sensible people insist on rising to the bait.

Anybody who actually sees a binary choice between cats and dogs deliberately wears blinkers. No species embodies virtues that automatically convey to homo sapiens sapiens who appreciate them. Dogs aren’t slavish attention whores and cats aren’t aloof individualists. They aren’t fucking PCs vs. Macs. They’re animals, both species long domesticated and both loved and valued companions to humans.

People who justify hating animals, for whatever reason, have something wrong with them. Period. Shagnasty might be furious and grieved over a loss but not of a cat.

 (1) When a dog jumps on you it’s mildly annoying. When a cat jumps on you it hurts like hell. (3) Cats most definitely do sit down right next to you (on the table or on the back or arms of the chair, or in you lap, **much** closer than a dog would sit) and stare while you eat. Plus they sometimes get extra annoying and take swipes at the food on your fork as it travels from plate to mouth.

Or they run away and hide. I don’t understand why this is exhalted by cat people? Why do you (general you) believe that jealous loyalty is the only true loyalty? Seems like a pretty dickish quality in a person.

> [@](#):
>
> They eat their own food and ask politely for more if they want it.

I wish. You’d think the world were coming to an end with the amount of whining you hear if their bowl is empty for more than a few minutes.

That, plus the “pet pet pet **ATTACK!!!** ” that has been mentioned. Kitty likes having her cheek scratched , but after a couple times I’ve learned my lesson.

And what’s this whole hunting thing I keep hearing about? Must be nice to have a cat that has even once gotten rid of a household pest.
