There is clearly something else at play and I suspect systemic racism explains a lot of it while garden variety racism explains much of the rest. ---

Based on what you wrote, you were analogizing a merit based admissions process with a lottery admissions process to a magnet school where the majority of students take calculus in their sophomore year and frequently take concrete math or probability theory in their senior year. I don’t understand how a lottery is analogous to a merit based admissions process for a school like that. ---
