You would think after spending a shit ton of money on a house, the bougie folks would use at least a fraction of their wealth to prevent their visitors from busting their asses in the dark! Go to just about any upper class or even upper middle class neighborhood at night and it will be dark as fuck! It’s like high income = high beams. Long/curvy/hilly driveways and sidewalks into the home are seldomly illuminated. They don’t give a fuck! You have to carry one of those expensive 1K lumen lights with you just not to slide on black ice, walk into a brown recluse web, or get jabbed by a branch. The few times I do see fucking lights on their property, it be those bitch ass faux gas lanterns. Hey SOBs get some real lights on your property such as high-powered motion-activated porch lights and those cute string lights with high watt LEDS. And it’s not just the individual properties in bougie neighborhoods that lack light, regular streetlights are also sparse. These motherfuckers must have bought off their HOA or municipal government (or whoever takes care of that shit) to give into their illuminationphobia. Blah blah blah “buuut light pollution!” Fuck that that shit, if you can’t get your house dark enough to sleep well, just get a damn sleep mask. And darkness is not only dangerous outdoors, it’s dangerous indoors also. Fall hazard. Safety first! Blah blah blah “but Bourgeoisie = middle class in French!” Well, i’m in AMERICA. My property is dark as hell unless I know I have people coming by after dark or I’m doing barn chores. I like it dark. I like seeing stars and using my nose and ears and the feel of the ground under my feet rather than my sight for a while. I know where I’m going. Don’t like it, stay the hell off my patch. ---

When I lived in that sort of neighborhood, light was considered a pollutant. One likely to attract riff raff. The only people I’m welcoming onto / near my property are my family and my staff. Go away. You’re not welcome here / there. ---

My brother lives in one such neighborhood ( he doesn’t like it either). You drive up a steep ass hill in the dark and when you get to the top it’s an abyss. Like being on Space Mountain except it is decidedly not fun. And yes, it is Bougietown. ---

My best friend lives on a street with neither street lights nor sidewalks. He said when his parents bought the house 60 years ago, the purchasing agreement with the city made the following mandatory. The city can build a sidewalk right over the front banks of each property and each property owner in that case would have to give the city $20,000 in fees to have such a sidewalk with street lights built. No city employees have seen fit to do this in 60 years. I know there are legal terms of real property for my description yet can’t think of them at the moment. ---

Strange: When our local (UK) council proposed to turn the street lights off at midnight as a cost-saving exercise, there were many protests. The main complaint was that criminals love the darkness when they can work without being seen. ---

I used to own a small biz situated in a rough part of town. We parked in the back in a widened area of the alley. We and other nearby businesses were open 24/7 and I was often there late into the night. We had bright floodlights illuminating our parking area. Some other businesses did; others did not. One night my truck was broken into and the contents rifled. There wasn’t anything significant to steal and the cost to repair the broken window far exceeded the value of what they took. I called the cops and shock of shocks, they sent somebody out to dust for prints, etc. Seems there’d been a spate of break-ins in the area and they were hoping to assemble a case against somebody.
