Fuck dude, don’t feed the troll. He’s at best aggressively ignorant with a below room temperature IQ when it comes to anything relating to history. The most you can hope for is that he’ll stop talking about specific points for a short while only to bring them back up again, willfully ignoring that he’s been proven to be demonstrably wrong. It’s absolutely mindboggling that he’s managed to avoid being banned for all of these years. ---

Which is, ironically, why mobilization by Germany meant war. Not that mobilization was inherently an act of war, but for Germany - and Germany only - it may as well have been. Because for Germany - and Germany only - once mobilization was declared, soldiers were going to be deposited on the Belgian border in their hundreds of thousands daily and immediately start marching through Belgium. This was an inherent part of German war plans; there was no option in the train timetables to do anything but deposit the troops to immediately violate Belgian neutrality and kick off the war. The fault is the German war plan, not mobilization in and of itself, as you said. And as has been pointed out to him repeatedly over the years. ---

The book goes to pains to note that the road from Nijmegen to Arnhem was the worst possible terrain for tanks, it was a single lane elevated road surrounded by polder - land that was below sea level and impassible by tanks. The British tanks would have to move in single file on an elevated road and be sitting ducks, trivially easy to bring to a bloody halt by as much as a single German anti-tank gun without their infantry support which was still in heavy fighting clearing out Nijmegen. Which is exactly what happened. From the book: > As Vandeleurs appeared, Langton, unsuccessful in his attempts to knock out > the gun, climbed out to meet them. “It was a mess up there,” Joe Vandeleur > remembers. “We tried everything. There was no way to move the tanks off the > road and down the steep sides of that damn dike.
