Another virtuoso post today by that eminent historian, DrDeth. I had a brief exchange with another poster in the thread about phony and annoying stuff in movies and TV that take you out of the plot. We were discussing whether it was realistic in _Raiders of the Lost Ark_ for Indiana Jones to hitch a ride atop a U-boat for a long journey and not expect it would submerge at some point. DD decided on a snappy response to my post: > [@What takes you out of a TV show or movie that’s actually trivial?](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/what-takes-you-out-of-a-tv-show-or-movie-that-s-actually-trivial/1033299/213): > > > [@What takes you out of a TV show or movie that’s actually trivial?](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/what-takes-you-out-of-a-tv-show-or-movie-that-s-actually-trivial/1033299/211): > > > > Ever-reliable AI informs us that "While on a tour of duty (war patrol), German U-boat crews conducted critical training drills (including crash dives)on a near-daily basis. Though maybe in the mid-'30s when the movie was set, they were more lax about such things. > > No global war at that time. Congratulations, DD! Thanks for enlightening us that WWII didn’t start for another few years (after Poland instigated it by refusing to cede territory to the Nazis, as he has informed us). I tell you, we’ll learn that boy some history yet. --- _[View the full topic](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/i-pit-drdeth/933971)._
