Aha! Found it. The answer is [to smoke more weed](http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21484568). That may conflict with the good doctor’s suggestion of eating less though.

**JohnClay** , I think you’re absolutely right, and you are doing the right thing. I think you should listen to your mother, and follow this new diet. It sounds like it will work. Don’t listen to what anyone here says. In fact, don’t even mention it here, because people will just bring you down. You just need to do your own thing, and talk about it with the people who really care about you. Posting about it will only get you grief.

I found it interesting that yesterday my mum and then her good friend my wife were saying that I should be happy with how I am and to not lose any more weight…

About a Rowan Atkinson pic I would be happy to look like:

I’m in-between. I’m not satisfied with my current appearance but on the other hand I think I have hope and think that Rowan Atkinson looks pretty good as a goal.

BTW as far as ketogenic (high fat, moderate protein, low carb?) diets go, I can easily find webpages that mention potential problems…

It all gets very complicated. But anyway the ketogenic diet I’m currently on is pretty much the same as the “Belly Fat Cure” diet except that I am allowing a certain amount of carbs per day (like that Whopper Jr bun).

BTW I like a site called Authority Nutrition which claims to be “an evidence based approach”. Here is an interesting article:

Tell us in great depth about these fish and how the fishing went. Daily.
Monday:

Today after work I wandered around a supermarket for about 40 minutes picking things up and looking at the nutritional information. By habit I picked up $1.50 of seafood highlighter because it is low in calories. Then I looked at a photo of the nutritional information I stored in my phone from January. It is pretty high in carbs (14%) and is not a “whole food” so I had thoughts of taking it back or leaving it lying around. Near the end I had a look at the “health food” section, then the hardcore diet section (with special shakes, etc) and then the body building type section with bulk up powders, etc. I remembered that watermelon was pretty good so I looked it up on my phone… it is 30 calories / 100g. I had 5 kg of groceries (and a 5 kg backpack with a laptop) and there was about a 15 min walk home so maybe that will build up my upper body slightly.

I found a keto calculator:

> **[Keto Calculator](https://keto-calculator.ankerl.com/)**
>
> This weight loss calculator finds out how you can lose weight on a ketogenic diet. Based on your personal data you can calculate the amount of carbohydrates, protein, and fat you can eat to reach your specific goal. Give it a try!

Based on the pics I guessed I might have 20% fat or even a bit more:

> **[Body Fat Comparison Pictures](https://martin.ankerl.com/2016/01/04/body-fat-comparison-pictures/)**
>
> Here is a collection of visual body fat charts. Use these to estimate your personal body fat for the keto calculator. See below for men. Women As you can see, even the same body fat percentag (here twice 15%) can look quite different, depending on...

This means my lean body mass is 59 kg (if I had no fat I’d be 59 kg).
About carbs on a ketogenic diet:

> [@](#):
>
> …Below 50g of net carbs each day is sufficient for most people to stay in ketosis. Make sure to get your carbs from vegetables (10-15g), nuts and seeds (5-10g), and fruits (5-10g)…

About protein:

> [@](#):
>
> …It is important to get enough protein to maintain your muscles, but not too much or it will kick you out of ketosis.
>
> Based on your personal data, you should stay within a range of 79g if you are mostly sedentary to 130g if you put your muscles under a lot of new stress or with a large caloric deficit to prevent muscle loss.
>
> When in doubt, choose the middle ground. For you, that’s 105g…

> [@](#):
>
> 37/M/6’0" | CW 163 lbs | 20% BF | Lightly active
>
> - 1680 kcal Goal, a 20% deficit. (1201 min, 2100 max)
> - 40g Carbohydrates
> - 105g Protein (79g min, 130g max)
> - 122g Fat (69g min, 168g max)

The foods I eat with protein are usually around 10% or up to nearly 20%. I got 1kg of whey protein powder on eBay for AU$24 including postage. It is 84% protein and 6% carbs. I’ll have some of that if I need more protein.
I’ll probably have a lot of macadamia nuts to get my fat (particularly MUFA). It is 8.7% protein, 72% fat (58% MUFA), 5.5% carbs. I can get it for about AU$30/kg.
So if I have about 100g a day that’s 72g of fat (58g of MUFA) but only 5.5g of carbs.

Based on this:

> **[How to Lose Weight Fast: 3 Simple Steps, Based on Science](https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/how-to-lose-weight-as-fast-as-possible)**
>
> This simple 3-step plan can help you lose weight fast. Read about the 3-step plan, along with other science-backed weight loss tips, here.

> [@](#):
>
> 1. Don’t “Diet”, Eat Healthy Instead
> …Instead of going on a diet, make it your goal to become a healthier, happier and fitter person. Focus on nourishing your body, instead of depriving it…

I looked in another brand of probiotic. I previously was having Inner Health Plus (the ad is on a lot and says “Have you had your Inner Health Plus today?”). Then I saw an ad that says another brand has 10 strains of bacteria instead of 2.
It also doesn’t need to be refrigerated which would explain why it is quite a bit cheaper.
The protein powder I bought would be good for my health too since it has a lot of 18 different amino acids. I’m also having Pfizer’s “Centrum” which has 30+ nutrients.

Also from the calculator page:

> [@](#):
>
> How Much Fat Should I Eat?
> …Fat intake depends on your goal. If you want to lose weight, your total calories have to be below your maintenance calories of 2099kcal. Think of fat as your healthy filler nutrient: To maintain your current weight, fill all of the 1520 remaining calories up with 168g fat. Don’t go below 69g of fat.
>
> If you want to lose weight, your total calories have to eat less than 2099kcal. How low can you go? This depends on the maximum rate your body can release body fat (See discussion 1 and 2). If you eat below 69g of fat, your body cannot keep up any more with burning your body fat for fuel and will start burning protein – meaning you will lose your hard earned muscles instead of more fat. You don’t want that…
>
> lowest intake
> 42% deficit
> 1201 kcal min
> 69 g fat min
>
> chosen intake
> 20% deficit
> 1680 kcal chosen
> 122 g fat chosen
>
> maintenance
> 0% deficit
> 2099 kcal max
> 168 g fat max

So it says for me a 42% calorie deficit is the maximum deficit I should have but the good doctor said I should have a 50% calorie deficit…

Also:

> [@](#):
>
> Here are your personal macros:
>
> 1680 kcal Daily Calorie Intake
> 40g Carbs (10%, 160 kcal)
> 105g Protein (25%, 420 kcal)
> 122g Fat (65%, 1100 kcal)
>
> If you stick to 40g of carbs, 105g protein, and 122g fat, you will eat 1680kcal and lose 1.6kg (3.5lbs) in the first month. Keep in mind that your body weight can fluctuate by ±2kg (±4lbs) on any given day from water weight and what’s in your stomach. Recalculate your macro ratio once a month, because changes in body composition have a large influence on the recommendations and weight loss.

When it comes to daily calorie intake, that’s just about the same. The difference between a six-inch sandwich and a five-inch sandwich isn’t going to make you much more hungry, nor trim a measurable amount from your waistband.

The good doctor was right, and the book is right too. There is more than one way to diet. For it to work, you’ve got to do it regularly and consistently, and mix it with exercise.

You’ve failed miserably in your attempt to impeach **DrFidelius**.

By the way, in actual point of fact, by what percentage have you reduced your caloric intake? I’m willing to bet you haven’t even come close to 42%, let alone 50%.

I’m not good at counting exact calories so I don’t know. In my previous post it said that my chosen calorie deficit is 20%. For 20% it says “Moderate Deficit: Fast weight loss with moderate difficulty.” If I choose 40% it says “Severe Deficit: Are you sure? Try a 20% deficit if you fail”
A 42% maximum deficit means 42% maximum. i.e. 50% is not allowed.

I can readily accept that our pal is mentally ill, but I think the deliberate trolling is incidental to that. Some individuals are such pathetic attention whores that even the most contemptuous ridicule serves as a positive reinforcement because it validates the fact that they exist.
