Hey, **vetbridge** , what about the companion:

Lesbian couples?

I wonder how San Francisco vets are doing…
I have several veterinarian-friends who hail from the Isle of Lesbos, and even they are quick to agree that compared to gay male clients, lesbian clients \ ***on average** \* are way-worse pet owners.

This article says in a 3 year period 201 pythons were trapped in the Florida Everglades. They were probably released by dingbats that bought little snakes as pets. When they got too hard to manage they let them go into the wilds. Now they are eating cats ,dogs and even alligators. They have no natural enemies and will only increase. Does anybody still think exotic pets are cool.?
Yes, anything that can eat an Alligator is fucking awesome.
… that’s not even touching the issue of introduced plant species.
What’s that vine I see hanging off the trees here? It chokes the living shit out of everything it parasitizes. I’ve even seen several trees marked for cutting in nature preserves here, just to stop the spread.

As for just licking those toads a couple of times: a friend of ours has a little yorkie whose favorite toys is one of its owner’s change purses – carries it around the house in its mouth. So the friend looks out her back window one day to see that the dog is carrying the purse around outside. Except the purse has kicking legs.

One $1000 vet bill later …
Why the hell anyone but a narrow population of experts buys a baby burmese is beyond me. Sure, they’re gorgeous babies…but babies GROW. REALLY BIG. Even red-tail boas, gorgeous and docile as they are, are too much snake for me at 10-15 feet. Oh, and I’ve seen several anacondas (you know, heaviest snake in the world) at pet stores…cute babies at the time, of course, but as hatchlings they’re not much smaller than my Seymour is now. I find it rather irresponsible of the pet stores to offer them without thoroughly–and I mean **thoroughly** –screening the potential owner. Who wants to come across a hungry 300lb snake in their back yard?
Anacondas are also notoriously ill-tempered. At least Burmese Pythons are usually fairly docile critters ( hence their popularity among big snake afficianados ), but most anacondas just won’t tame down. Which makes them a trial even when it comes to relatively mundane issues like cage cleanings. A friend of mine once got bit by a large wild boa and described it as “like being hit in the chin with a nail gun.” I’d hate to imagine just how charming a much larger anaconda bite would be. I’d agree that, much as with the sale of monitor lizards ( most of which make perfectly shitty pets ), the anaconda trade in particular should be a lot more regulated than it is. The African Rock Pythons are supposedly tempermental little ( BIG ) bastards as well.

My own limit when I kept snakes ( haven’t for about a decade now - lost interest) was about 6-7ft. More than that was just too much of a handful for my taste.

A pet reptile doesn’t make sense, they have no empathy with humans. Unlike a dog, your pet snake views you as a potential meal! Years ago, in Providence, RI, a guy had a pet monitor lizard-it was 6 ft. long. While feeding it, the lizard latched onto the guy’s head-luckily, his roomate called the police, who had to kill the beast. yeah, “pet” indeed!

I have had 2 turtles for many years. One of them would bite me if I gave them the chance. I feed them everyday and clean their tank and filter. Sherman would bite me and think nothing of it. Not a friendly pet.

I could have _sworn_ I responded to this before, but now I don’t see it. Anyway:

What species of turtle were they? And was the other one named “Pershing?”

They are red eared sliders. Sherman is noisy. He hisses like a loud snake. When I put him on the floor the dogs and cat wont come within 3 feet. They are afraid. They should be. Nordberg watches him fron the 2nd step.
