I have been forced to create a page for my business on Facebook, and the assholes will not show my company’s icon or name. I do not, and WILL NOT, create a personal page on fucking Facebook, and the assholes apparently won’t show anything other than a personal one.

My wife loves Facebook, and has had accounts on it for years with her personal, creates Events pages, Artist pages, whatever. SHE couldn’t get the fucking thing to work, and had the same “Well, I guess you have to create a personal page” thing. I will not, and do not wish to give these assholes any more personal information than absolutely necessary.

I’m quite confident, MsWhatsit, that your personal page is connected. I’m not saying that you deliberately connected them, but that Facebook found some way to connect them. They are sneaky motherfuckers in that way.

Your posts don’t show up where? To whom do they not show up? I 100% believe that you are having some kind of problem, but based on the information you’ve given so far (your company name and logo are not showing up in some location that you expect them to be showing up in) it’s impossible to diagnose what it is. I mean, if you just wanted to vent steam, that’s cool, but I am not getting the sense right now that you fully understand what the issue is, so potentially there is some fix you have just missed.

I just tried to create a business page on Facebook without creating a personal account. It can’t be done.

So I don’t know what you did, but the problem is clearly on your end.

Your posts don’t show up where? To whom do they not show up? I 100% believe that you are having some kind of problem, but based on the information you’ve given so far (your company name and logo are not showing up in some location that you expect them to be showing up in) it’s impossible to diagnose what it is. I mean, if you just wanted to vent steam, that’s cool, but I am not getting the sense right now that you fully understand what the issue is, so potentially there is some fix you have just missed.

I shoot concert video, and I have been trying to post sample videos from that concert on the relevant Event or Band pages. When I try to post videos or comments on their “walls”, the comment appears for me, but not for anyone else. And the name of my business does not show up, nor does the logo.

I attribute this to Facebook being a fucked up, evil piece of shit. You may have a different explanation.

Well, it may be an evil, fucked up piece of shit, but it is an evil fucked up piece of shit in the form of a website which has software rules governing its operation. These rules may not be transparent to the user, but they exist, and if you want to use the site (which it seems you do) it is helpful to try to understand what those rules are.

In this case, a few possibilities come to mind to explain why this is happening.

1. You’re right and a business page that is not linked to a personal account is not allowed to post from that account to other Timelines and walls. Certainly a possibility.

2. When you are viewing the walls/Timelines for the band or event, you have inadvertently set the page to show only posts from the page owner. This is the default setting and you usually have to change it in order to be able to see all posts.

3. There is something wrong with your video uploading process.

4. You have your post-level privacy settings so that others cannot see posts you make on others’ walls. (Not very likely but possible.)

5. Your posts are being caught in some kind of spam filter.

How do the posts show up to you? You say that your company name and logo don’t appear, but what does appear?
