If we had 13 months of 28 days, which would mean an even four weeks per month, we’d have 364 days a year, which is pretty good going and would only need a tweak, an extra special holiday day to make up the missing slot. But nooooo, 13 months is unlucky or something. So they made it twelve months for some crazy mathematical reason, but had to bugger about with the number of days of each month to make it fit. Poor February got the brunt of that. ---

I agree, screw February. I just moved recently, and to get the place, I had to pay the security deposit and half a month’s rent back in the beginning of February. But because of work, I couldn’t really move until the last week of Feb when I had a week’s vacation. Low and behold tomorrow is the end of the month, which means another month of rent of due. Its killing me! Having to write two big checks in one pay period means I’m flat broke :mad: ---

Well, the one good thing about Feb is that the shorthand we normally use (4 weeks = month) is actually true. I agree that we should have had 13 months of 28 days, for not only would that give us nice perfect 4-week months, but it would make the equinoxes and solstices happen at fairly different days of their respective months (I don’t like how now, they’re always at days 21-23). And maybe 13 would become a “calender’s dozen”, shortened to “caldozen”, shortened to “caldoz”. And that would make me happy, because “caldoz” would be a nice word to have for Scrabble. ---

I have had a hate on for February for decades now – I’m a bit superstitious about it because bad things seem to happen to me in February, but more than that, it’s such a crabby month. Winter has been going on for about 6 months at this point, the days are longer but not yet long enough, it’s dark, it’s grey, it’s crap weather, everyone’s either sick or coming down with something, and Spring is clearly never going to arrive. I fucking hate February, and I’m reasonably certain the feeling is mutual.
