Granted, Bedknobs and Broomsticks is better than you would expect for a movie trying to copy the formula of a classic like “Mary Poppins.” It was nice that B&B added another child, as the unnecessary third child made me believe I was seeing something original. I also enjoyed the overlong Portobello songs. After, what, 15? 20? Maybe 25 minutes of a repetitive and boring song with no relevance to the plot, I was beginning to think the movie would be an all time great. Then, perhaps the greatest song of all time “The Beautiful Briny” reared its ugly, but forgettable, head. Ah, yes, a fine movie indeed. Overall, I was impressed with the way B&B tried to stick to a previously successful formula, only taking time out for incredibly long and pointless deviations, but I still prefer Mary Poppins. ---

They’re chimney-sweeps who dance around in silhouette and do tricks with their broomsticks and whimsically shove themselves into tiny holes and okay I see your point. I did notice in the other thread that Fenris the **SATANIST** , when he was listing the dull, lifeless songs in Mary Poppins he failed to mention the rousing _Step in Time_ song, which is still one of the best Disney songs ever. I haven’t seen either movie, I hate sacharine musicals. But **Euty** as far as I’m concerned, marking your respective posts purely on the basis of what is important in this forum, **Fenris** wins. Why? You use “God” too many times. “My God”, “God fucking damn”, “My fucking God”. Enough with the deistic references already! I’m not religious, I’m not offended, I’m just bored. Sheesh. ---

Mary Poppins is stupid as fuck. I have a huge collection of kids movies, and I swear that one will never go back in it. My boys (6 and 2) don’t even watch that POS. On the other hand, bedknobs and broomsticks sucks ass too. ---

I am almost ashamed to admit that somehow in the course of my misspent yout’ I have never seen _Bedknobs and Broomsticks_ (or possibly had suppressed any memory of having done so) and had always been a big fan of _Mary Poppins_, and thus had approached **Fenris** ’s thread in CS with some degree of trepidation. Had I somehow neglected a masterpiece of childhood entertainment, thus warping my psyche forever? (While eager to jump on any excuse to explain my warped psyche, I somehow doubt this was actually the case. But I digress…) When I saw this thread in The Pit I spent about three microseconds trying to figure out what **Fenris** could have said to arouse **Euty** ’s ire\* before opening it. Upon seeing the basis for his complaint, it was all I could do to keep from laughing so hard as to gain the unwanted attention of my manager and the subsequent discovery of my abuse of company time and equipment. This is one of the reasons I joined SDMB. \*I was going to insert a smartass remark about the _size_ of **Euty** ’s aroused ire, but am restraining myself out of a sense of self-preservation. I’m sure there are others with more experience in these matters. ---

A pit-thread about the relative virtues of Mary Poppins V Bedknobs and Broomsticks. Wha? You lousy pack of sorry-arsed sonsobitches need to get your heads read. How can you debate such a pointless issue? How can you waste your finger-energies and the bandwidth on these sorts of debatable non-events? All it takes is a spoonful of sugar to make the argument go down. Of COURSE Mary Poppins wins this challenge. Sheesh…what sort of a moron would think otherwise? ---

It’s just more appealing; more atttractive; and the lighting effects are better, too. While there’s nothing in MP to compare to the battle scene, keep in mind you have to wade through the entire movie to GET to the battle scene. MP delivers more consistently. And anyone who doesn’t agree with me is cordially invited to bite me and die. 😃 ---

In regards to the OP: I don’t remember seeing a Simpsons spoof of **B & B** , thus proving the superiority of **MP**. However, Futurama did a spoof of **Willy Wonka…** - thus negating both **B & B** AND **MP**. Thus spake the Movie Bastard. ---
