**Troy** , I’m not sure why you’re taking such offense at what I said, since I’m only calling you out on using your “Me want you to live how I want you to” stance. Cars are not essential. Centuries ago there were no cars. There was tobacco. Somehow we’ve survived to get to a message board. 2/3 of the post I quoted was you stating you personally didn’t like it. Fine. I respect that and won’t smoke around you if we ever meet. But being such a hard-ass about expecting people to conform to your expectations is being a little unreasonable. Please ask you city representative to ban tobacco and shun the tax. (Yeah, call it a dead horse, but look into how much money your city collects and decide if you want it to end) And thanks for the compliment. I was waiting to unleash the “douche” argument. I’ve been to dinner with people who requested a table in the non-smoking section. When this happened I had no problem excusing myself and stepping away from the table for a smoke. If the people I am with do not request a table in the non-smoking section then I get a table in the smoking section. While in the smoking section I smoke I as I please regardless of who else is smoking in the smoking section at that time. ---

If you got a smoking table because that’s all that was available, then you should consider stepping outside. If the people you are with are being overwhelmed by smoke, you should step outside. ---

Can we all step back for a quick reality check for a moment? Non-smokers, how often, in real life, do you encounter smokers smoking in clearly marked non-smoking areas? And when was the last time you actually stank of smoke after passing within 15 feet of a smoker? Smokers, how often, in real life, does someone come up to you in a smoking area telling you to snuff it? Be honest. Because I have the feeling that we are all talking past each other with worst case scenarios that don’t really happen that often. ---

I didn’t ask her not to smoke, or to smoke less; I asked if I could sit next to an open window. What a bitch I was being, huh? But no, I’m in her house, so I HAVE to breathe her smoke! She was further punishing me by forcing me to breathe her smoke _after she went to bed_. Opening a window to get some fresh air is not an offensive behavior. So do you think it was wrong of me to ask that guy to move down the empty bar so he wasn’t blowing smoke in my face as I worked? Sure, he’s legal to smoke in the bar, but he was (unintentionally, granted) blowing it RIGHT in my face, and I couldn’t move away. If I could have moved, I would have, but I couldn’t. I asked nicely. It wouldn’t have been hard for him to move down the bar. Should I have to suffer his smoke simply because it’s legal, when he could have been kind and considerate and just moved three chairs over?
