I pit LIPA

Give the guy a break. He is posting from work, and it’s not his job to say he’s sorry. Union rules.

I heard this on the news this evening.

This is part of today’s press release:

In addition, LIPA estimates that there are a significant number of customers from the most severely flooded areas whose homes and businesses currently may be unable to receive power. LIPA is working with local county and town authorities in those communities to implement a process to safely restore power.
As part of this process, LIPA advises customers that all flood-damaged electrical equipment must be inspected before power can be restored to their premises. Extreme flooding from Sandy submerged electrical panels, wires and electrical outlets, causing concerns for the safety of Long Island residents and their property. LIPA cannot bring power to these affected homes and businesses without a proper electrical inspection.
We are all members of this community, and we have a vested interest in the well being of all our customers. LIPA thanks you for your continued patience in these difficult circumstances.

The news story said that there may be a wait of up to 10 days to get an electrical inspector to your home, if you aren’t home they will leave a note with a phone number. If you don’t want to wait for the LIPA inspector you can hire an electrician to inspect and sign off on your home.

These inspections probably aren’t a bad idea.

But residents are wondering why they weren’t told about this last week.

Yeah, my mistake. I was thinking of a power company, LILCO (Long Island Lighting Company), which was a part owner of a nuke plant near me, for years before the plant was sold to some other company. Ignore my post. Faulty memory.

Post? What post?

Damn, OP, that’s terrible :frowning: I wish there was something I could do to help!

I didn’t post. That was ‘other kids’… Heh heh…

[/beavis and butthead]

Yeah, see my ‘mea culpa’ in a post above this one. I was wrong. I admitted it. You’re welcome. Any more spankings you wish to deliver? When I deserve them, I bend over and take them. Do you?

Hey, Deser2, let someone show you how to do it classy:

Take notes, there will be a test.

I have no problem apologizing when it’s necessary. I repeated a rumor that was reported by more than one publication. I labeled it as such. Y’all need to take it down a few notches.

A few more related items I heard on the local morning news today - I didn’t verify their sources so please, feel free to spout your outrage if you find any information contradicting them:

-it seems LIPA may be running short on supplies - transformers and utility poles were the two items the news mentioned. I’m sure, in addition to the inspections that need to be done, that this is contributing to the slow restoration.

-crews from outside new york have complained that LIPA management is not incredibly efficient in relaying to them where their help is needed. Again, this seems to speak towards the unpreparedness of LIPA which is oddly remeniscent of the slow response to the freak October snow storm we had last year.

There are still a lot of areas without power restored. My family had theirs turned back on late Saturday night, thank god, but they have friends who live closer to the shore that are still waiting. Now we have another storm with high winds coming in which I am certain will cause further delays. The power outages are contributing to the gas issue as well - there are a very large number of gas stations with fuel but without power. There have been countless postings on Facebook from friends out in Long Island indicating, even as late as yesterday evening, multi-hour waits to get gas in some areas.

And don’t even get me started on the handful of stations trying to price gouge. Some were selling gas for as high as $6/gallon (normal price was in the 3.80 - 3.90 range before the storm). But thats a whole 'nother issue…

Fail

You didn’t just report the a rumor. You posted it and then you drew conclusions from it (working on the presumption that is was true) and posted a very negative response. So you bashed some folks that didn’t deserve bashing based on your presumption that an inflammatory rumor was true.

ETA: You don’t see the difference between “I heard this rumor, I wonder if it’s true” and “I heard this rumor, I wonder if it’s true, boys those guys suck that they’re doing that and it’s all screwed up that they’re doing it.”

Well I will apologize for insulting the Utility Workers based off a rumor.

And yes I do realize the difference, however, all the bitching was about me posting the rumor, not my comments:

The “eight seconds to verify if it was true or not” wasn’t an exaggeration. I suspect it took you longer to pass on the misinformation then it would’ve taken to find out if it was true.

Yes. That reason is that people like you are both gullible and lazy. Otherwise stuff like this would quickly be fact-checked and not passed on

**This is absolutely not true. It’s such inflammatory misinformation. Please check your facts before posting. **

Aye, there’s the rub.

So in other words, you’re shitting on LILA (or LILCO, depends on the time period you’re looking at, apparently), because they are RUNNING OUT OF SUPPLIES??? You are bitching because they don’t even have the shit??? OK, I’m an idiot. I proved it in my earlier post. You have gone waaaaay beyond any stupidity I did. You have taken stupidity into new territory.

Welcome to your new reputation, idiot. Thanks for relieving me of my well earned rep…

It’s LIPA

And I may have stumbled on the main reason for Cuomo’s anger at the utility companies.
Apparently HIS Westchester NY neighborhood is still without power 10 days after the storm

No, you’re incorrect. No where in that post did I say it was their fault - I only said that for the benefit of those people still without power on Long Island - there will probably be additional delays in getting it restored if they are, in fact, running low on supplies. So don’t pass your crown off quite yet - you can still hold the title for while.

In the second part, I was shitting on management for not deploying crews to where they are needed in an efficient manner.

And now we’ve just had a Nor’Easter blow through which dumped anywhere from 4-7 inches of snow onto the Island. I can only imagine that this will cause further delays. (For those with comprehension problems, no I am not shitting on LIPA because of the storm).

I spoke with my mother today and they have friends who had gotten their power turned back on Tuesday morning only to lose it again last night. To anyone out there still without power, my thoughts go out to you - I can only imagine how difficult a situation this is. Luckily, they’re reporting that the next 5 days or so should be sunny with temps hitting almost 70 by sunday/monday. Should at least give a decent window of clear weather to get more repairs done.

Additionally, my mother told me that there are some churches throughout the Island that are provided workers to help people with flood damage. One couple she is friends with has already contacted them and they are going to help remove some of the damaged sheetrock in their home. I don’t know which church(es) specifically are providing this help, but if anyone needs it, shoot me a message and I will find out from her.

Out of town power company idiots saying maybe Saturday. They came by the neighbor’s house seven times yesterday without fixing the downed line in their backyard. 7 freaking times!!!

Clowns

Lizzard died. Parrot next.

They’ve disappeared today. I think they were told to rest 24 hours, or something.

Probably safer.

LILCO - LIPA have resisted the pleas to bury power lines for years. Short term P&L driven.

The gas shortage makes it worse.

They said 90% to be restored by Wednesday, but they only hit 20% which is where it still is.

Thank-you Huntington Public Library.

Well, we lost power last night and it was restored by this morning, so the folks are working somewhere…

Yesterday five trucks showed up at 1:30 PM. They left at 3:00 PM, just as I got home. They didn’t accomplish anything except that they “showed the flag”.
