And for achival purposes here is the [post](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/this-has-to-stop-extreme-actions-at-political-gathering/843927/20) that I was referencing (since its in the pit, I think I can do a direct link without getting into trouble).

I think it stems from a total inability to admit error, so that rather than concede a point he just come up with more and more wild scenarios to justify his original claim.
