I also have had excessive wax build-up in my ears with an occasional bout with fluid swishing around. Here’s a procedure I’ll follow twice a week or so, immediately after getting out of the shower:
Turn on the hot faucet in your sink and let it get HOT. Take two unused Q-tips, put them under the water, then stick them in your ears (about a 1/2" to 3/4" in) and twist them for about 10 seconds, cleaning the sides of your ear canal. Remove the Q-tips and put the dry side in, twisting them until your ears feel relatively dry. Take two new Q-tips and carefully put them in your ear canal, fairly deep and let them sit for a few minutes, letting the inserted Q-tip ends absorb the leftover moisture.
I’m not a doctor and I caution anyone who does this to be VERY CAREFUL, as I understand the risks. I’m not even suggesting anyone do this, but simply sharing what works for me.
One of those stupid “If you have this unusual medical problem, call us now!” commercials alerted me to the possibility that I have this tinnitus thing. I’ve long known that I hear a whining noise all the fucking time, but I figured it’s something that I just need to deal with. Isn’t any worse than the arthritis, so what’s the point of complaining, right? But after the damn commercial I notice it more (even over the drone of all the servers at work). I was going to make an appointment with the doc, but it doesn’t appear they can do anything about it.
Fuck the outfit that almost got my hopes up! Why do they advertise this when they can’t fix the problem?
“tonsilith”
So THAT’S what those are called. I have those constantly and for some reason none of my doctors have taken note of them. Hmh.
[and they’re STINKY too]
I have itches regularly in my left ear, but my tonsils were taken out before I was 2 years old.
So I have NO idea what causes the itching.
I tend to get a lot of wax, but have found an OTC kit that includes a syringe to squeeze the water through my ear. I did that a few months ago and got some HUGE globs of wax out. My right ear still felt stuffy, though, so I asked the doctor to look in it, and she said I’d done a great job cleaning, but I apparently have a bit of fluid. Not enough to do anything about, unfortunately. So I just live with it. And take advantage of the fact that I wake up with my earwax kinda runny (I have no idea why) to clean it on a nearly-daily basis while it’s still runny, to lessen the chances of getting more clogs.
And poor Papa Tiger suffers from awful tinnitus. Apparently it can be helped with “white noise” hearing aids, but we haven’t had the several thousand bucks to spend on them to try it out. He tried some disposable hearing aids – yes, they make such a thing – but they didn’t fit him right and just caused more annoyance than they might have helped. So he lives with it for now.
Ears are just plain annoying.
