Here was my thinking, however. Any employee that qualifies can come, and bring whoever they want, they just pay out of pocket for that person. I told her earlier she can bring anyone along she wanted to this year-except Douche. If this was next year, I probably wouldn’t care so much, bygones be bygones, we’re all adults, don’t hold a grudge, etc. etc—so Douche could come with. So------who’s participating in this tug o’ war that puts her in the middle? Me, and Douche. If I am ok with him coming with in a year, what changes about the situation except the passage of time? He is her husband, how can I have other spouses with, and not him? I decided to opt out of his funky game playing. If they don’t go, he can’t blame it on me-maybe she’ll get wiser to how he operates. Am I happy about this decision of mine? Not at all. Do I feel like I’ve given in, that I am condoning this behavior. Yep, sure do. But you know what? That’s kinda messed up thinking on my part. I’m her employer, she’s made her decision, and unless I am willing to fire her, I have to let it go. \*It was mentioned today that all her swimsuits were treated the same way as her underwear. Snip, snip. ---

Maybe he’ll get drunk and fall of the ship / fall off a cliff / whatever calamity a drunken person might do at the trip’s location. OK no, I don’t really want that to happen, at all. But a small mean part of me says that might be best for everyone. Even if it would make your workplace deadly boring afterward. ---

Update. Talked to her last night, the only way they can go is if I loan them the money for Douche’s trip. Obviously, I said no. Other circumstances, I’d do it, take a bit out of every check until it was paid off. This circumstance, no way. Told her she could have an extra week paid off this year instead, do what she wants. Now, if I was completely Machiavellian, this would have…Oh, wait, never mind. ---

But you have to work your ass off in return. In the summer, you have no life at all and can expect to work minimally 60-70 hours a week. It’s dirty, messy, loud, impolite and obnoxious. Stressful doesn’t even begin to describe dealing with homeowners, schedules, suppliers, workers and the weather. And now co-workers. Wintertime you get to go through all of your jobs for the year, analyze the shit out of everything, plan for the next year and have your boss micromanaging because she’s bored and hates being in the office. I pay well, am pretty easy going, try to be ethical most days, and I won’t even mention how smoking hot I am. (Ok, three out of four ain’t bad.) I appreciate how hard this job can be. But there is no “I can’t.” You can, and you will. ---
