# I pit my Tex-Mex lunch plate (totally lame)

Not the quality. Food was excellent (as always, I eat there three to four times a week) with perfect salsa and crispy corn chips and bubbling hot cheese enchiladas. I pit the quantitiy and my glutinous self. I _cannot_ keep my eyes open. I’m debating whether to lay my head down on my cubicle desk for 15 minutes and hope my boss doesn’t walk by or to stick thump tacks under my fingernails…

Perhaps the Tex-Mexx gave him the runs now his sack is stuck (like with glue) to his leg this affects his eyes in some way.

Yes, I meant _gluttonous_ (as well a _thumb_ tacks, obviously. :rolleyes: to me). ARGH. I’ve lost the ability to spell (although if you look at other posts of mine, you’ll see I can’t really blame it on this particular lunch). And thank you for the link, I always get glutinous mixed up with [gelatinous](http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=gelatinous). (both are kinda icky, tho’ not as icky as **Karl’s** post…)

Now I would like to add-on my own tex-mex pitting, if I may.
Fuck you [Chuy’s](http://www.chuys.com/), for reducing your portion sizes. I used to love getting a huge delicious tex-mex meal at your fine establishment, but recently you saw fit to cut entree portions by about one-third to one half. That pathetic little cylinder on my plate is not a real Chuychanga, it is merely some pale imitation. I wouldn’t have minded a price raise nearly as much as your reduction of portions. Curse you for ruining perfection. You’ve lost yourself a longtime customer.

Really? _Chuy’s_ has changed their portion sizes? I haven’t eaten there in forever 'cause I get really tired of hour plus waits. Plus, this time of year, the [Trail of Lights](http://www.thedigerati.us/pics/tol/) traffic makes the wait even longer. Hmm, they were never one of my favorite places anyway.
I usually go to Maudies Too on South Lamar. Never all that crowded and they have the _best_ salsa in town. The service can be a little slow sometimes tho’. My other favorite Tex-Mex in Juan-in-a-Million over in East Austin for scorchin’ hot salsa…

**tremorviolet** , have you done the trail of lights thing this year? This is my second December in Austin and a friend of mine raves about it, but I have never seen it. Is it just a bunch of xmas lights, or what?

Glad I’m not the only one getting tired of long waits at Chuy’s. I was starting to take it personal-like. Now I just don’t even bother any more ☹ For quick, cheap Tex-Mex, I kinda like Taco Cabana. I’ve never tried Juan in a Million, but I’ve heard lots of good things. Hmm, may be time for a field trip!

Well, the Chuy’s in Houston on Westheimer cut their portions… I’m assuming it’s been done across the boards in all their restaurants. While they didn’t necessarily have the very best tex-mex, it was (is?) very good, and amazingly consistent. I’ve _never_ had a bad meal at any Houston or Austin location in over fifty trips. Wait times do suck though, so when I’d go it would be at off-peak hours.
Another big vote for the Hyde Park Christmas lights. Walking around there is a lot of fun.

Yeah, totally check out 37th St. And don’t be a lamer and drive through it, get out and walk and chat with the neighbors. The really insane house that has the backyard area belongs to my friend, Sharon and her husband (who is really the brains behind the madness).
Trail of Lights is fun, particularly if you haven’t been before. My old firm used to do volunteer work there monitoring the displays (always on the coldest night of the year, brrr). It’s just a series of lighted vignettes, some of which are ancient, others are more modern.
