Oh yeah, I do the netflixing and video gaming and drinking thing at home/ not at work to possibly ease the seemingly unending boredom. At work I’m much more constrained in my options. Which is where I am now…for one more hour. As for AHS, I dig it when my wife is watching it. But I haven’t liked it enough to just sit down and watch them all on my own. ---

Well hell, if your response to insufficient challenge and stimulus is just to try to make time pass with entertainment and alcohol, no wonder you’re bored. Try using your brain for something that requires sustained, laborious effort instead of just keeping it perpetually distracted or stupefied. ---

Or a purpose? yeah, I’ve given up on most of those. I get bored really quickly. If I stumble upon something interesting, I’ll do/research it to death and be bored again in a few weeks. ---

I sure as hell am no doctor or psychologist, but ISTM that if an intelligent person who is actively seeking mental engagement is constantly experiencing recurring crippling boredom, to the extent of having to abandon the pursuits they were engaging with, that could be a sign that something is wrong. I mean, rationally speaking, life is not intrinsically boring, knowledge is not boring, thinking is not boring. There is so much experience and stimulus available that it seems statistically pretty much impossible to ever be in a situation where there’s literally **nothing** to engage your attention. Usually, ISTM, boredom is a consequence of youth and/or ignorance: the undeveloped brain hasn’t figured out how to work with its material, or doesn’t have enough stored material of the right kinds to allow it to access new material. But it sounds as though you’re an intelligent adult with a pretty good depth of knowledge that new knowledge could be integrated with. If you’re still battling severe boredom on the regular, my first impulse would be to say “talk to somebody about how your brain is handling this”. I reiterate, however, that IANAD. ---

That may have been what I was doing when i started this thread? Again, that was so long ago. Like yesterday…I totally forgot I started this. However, returning to this thread has killed a good 15 minutes of otherwise total painful boredom at work. So Thank You! or should I say Thank ME? Or should I just stop saying anything?
