A minor pitting in the grand scheme of things but is it so hard to market [Saskatoon](http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/saskatoons-or-juneberries-canada-us-name-debate-brewing/article20216632/) berries? If you can get the average American consumer to pronounce acai fucking berries calling Saskatoons “june berries” isn’t going to strengthen your case. If the name is so reassuring, why not do the same with all the fruit? We can call acai “Brazil berries”, and pineapples “Patriot fruit”! Fuck you and your (je)june berries! ---

I would say “who cares,” but at least three people do. The Cornell contractor, the reporter, and the OP who for some reason thinks this deserves widespread attention. ---

I LIKE the name “Saskatoon berries.” For one thing, it serves as a reminder that “Saskatoon” is an actual place, and not just a quasi-funny-sounding nickname for Saskatchewan. cf. “Kackalackee” for North or South Carolina. What are the berries like? ---

They are great in pies and jams. **Knowed Out** , I did state in my OP that this wasn’t exactly Earth shattering, but it annoys me that something like this has to be “managed”. ---

I’m still getting over the fact that they tacked the word “berry” on the end. It’s not like there’s some ambiguity when someone says, “I’m going to eat three saskatoon pies” ---

My great-grandfather is, apparently, as close to Saskatoon royalty as one can get, though I’ve never been there. But I do remember visiting my grandparent’s cattle ranch as a child, near Calgary, and picking wild Saskatoon berries, and they were delicious. Tasted a lot like blueberries, from what I remember. ---

Blue, black, straw, rasp, cran, goose, bar, bay…I realize there are a few exceptions, but on the whole us 'merkins like our berries to have one-syllable prefixes. Even “marion” is shorter than “Saskatoon.” Our mouths are lazy that way, so sue. ---

Considering that the berries aren’t exclusive to Canada, and do grow wild in the NW/N.
