Fuck. My heart isn’t in this pitting now, either. Opal’s never done anything to me. It shouldn’t be so much Opal I’m pitting. but The Opal Show™ that’s taking over the social side of the SDMB, and the enabling that goes on which allows such a spectacle to take place. She’s got real problems that are evidencing on the board, and she needs real help, not {{huggies}} or spoon-fed answers to every question she poses. It seems like the majority of Dopers either welcome The Opal Show™, or they just don’t care. SDMB staff seem complicit, too. Welcome to Fathom II, I guess. ☹ ---

That’s exactly it. As long as Opal – or anyone else for that matter – isn’t breaking any rules, there’s nothing anyone can do. Opel gets a lot of flack because of her behavior as well as her longevity here. There have been – and perhaps still are – a lot of Dopers in similar throes. It’s akin to having an unseen target on your back in a reality competition show. ---

Opal may not be breaking any rules, but I seem to remember other posters receiving a “hey, you’ve started X number of threads over the past Y number of days, you might want to think about slowing it down” message from other posters if not from moderators. Opal consistently hijacks threads to turn them into a “me me me” fest, and I seem to remember that other posters with the same behavior pattern receiving a “hijack less, please” message. Not breaking board rules isn’t the same thing as not being an annoying poster and having the annoying stuff pointed out. ---
