I misread just about everything in the OP. First of all, I read it as “I pit parents with tattoos…” and had no idea what that was relevant. Then I didn’t read WHO the OP was until I started to reply…
I’ll say it anyways, but I’m sure the good Dr knows this.
It’s pretty common for people that are afraid of needles/shots to have tattoos. Let me rephrase…it seems to be common enough for people that are afraid of getting shots to not be afraid of getting tattoos. I’m not afraid of needles or shots in the least (I usually watch when I get a shot or IV put in) so I really can’t speak to what exactly scares people about them. I don’t know if it’s the pain, but tattoos hurt quite a bit more (but when it’s over you have something to show for it). Maybe it’s that something is being injected or how much deeper the needle goes.
Then there’s having blood drawn which, I think, bothers people on a whole different level.
Of course, maybe these are the ‘screamers’ at the tattoo shop. Ever been to a tattoo shop when there’s someone there that can’t take it. Sheesh.

I nursed my daughters through many of their shots so they were pretty quiet but I’m afraid that’s not the solution you’re looking for.

I’m afraid that would probably be against the rules. (Though I bet he’d be real popular with his patients until the Powers That Be caught on. “Here, have some pruno–for medicinal purposes, of course.”)

Yes! I can’t count how many times I’ve heard that. Nothing like a guy with more tattoos than teeth who flips out over getting 5 stitches and a tetanus shot.

I’ve made it to age 47 with no tattoos, but I have no fear of medical needles.
Also, as a lifelong professional cook, I’ve cut and burned myself so many times that I like to think that I could suffer a tattoo in stoic silence.

They are afraid of sterile NEEDLES. How many jailhouse tattoos are done with proper needles? (actually, if Qadgop has an answer to that, my post will be stupid and I will feel bad, but here goes…)
Just start offering your injections by way of safety pin, guitar string, random shard of metal, or whatever horrible thing you have to deal with on a daily basis and I have never heard of.
You could offer to include saliva or urine as a wetting agent for the reluctant ones. It’s all about what’s familiar.

Or, can a lollipop stick be turned into a shiv?
