# I pit people who hate metal

I find tech-death bands fascinating live, and dull on record. I feel the same way about jazz. I think it’s because the music is often far more about the technicality than the overall sound, and technicality is only really impressive when you see someone playing.

I once asked a death metal guitarist I know why most tech-death songs sound like a bunch of semi-random riffs strung together. The answer was the obvious one…
