That’s actually correct, the French just won’t admit it.

Yes, we can all read the article.

But perhaps the article is not accurately reporting the requirements of the law. The article says, and you quote: “Under that law, conversations between the governor and other statewide elected officials in his cabinet about staffing decisions must be open to the public and recorded with minutes.”

Certainly if that were the law, the alleged conduct violates it. But setting aside for a moment the question of whether that’s what actually happened, that’s not actually the text of the law.

The actual law says:

> [@](#):
>
> All meetings of any board or commission of any state agency or authority or of any agency or authority of any county, municipal corporation, or political subdivision, except as otherwise provided in the Constitution, including meetings with or attended by any person elected to such board or commission, but who has not yet taken office, at which official acts are to be taken are declared to be public meetings open to the public at all times, and no resolution, rule, or formal action shall be considered binding except as taken or made at such meeting. The board or commission must provide reasonable notice of all such meetings.

It’s not clear to me, nor does there seem to be any decisional law in place now in Florida, that covers the situation of a governor discussing personnel matters prior to them becoming “official acts.” A moment’s thought should make clear that such an interpretation would stifle necessary interaction between the governor and his appointees.

“I’m considering appointing Chick Johnson to the post of assistant director.”

“No, no – bad idea. Chick can’t keep his pants zipped. There was a problem with an intern in his office a couple years ago. His wife moved out for a couple months, but they’re reconciled now. But we can’t risk it in a high-profile spot.”

Does that conversation become a “meeting” within the meaning of § 286.011? I say it does not.

It becomes a meeting when the governor appoints someone, to be sure. But not to discuss private concerns that do not, on their own, rise to the level of “official acts.”

I can’t find any case in Florida law that suggests otherwise.

Can you? I certainly admit this is not my area of expertise.

In that threads about Scott Walker are Scott Walker threads; _“soi-disant”_ or “so-called” has no business being linked to the phrase.

Technically, any thread with more than about 60-so posts will _always_ be _soi-disant_ wrt the OP, at least to some extent. If they fail to fully drift off, they at least become significantly dendritic, sometimes to the point of obscuring to topic in a fur of cross-talk.

Would that it were true. In fact, those threads are about baseless and desperate hopes that something, ANYTHING, will happen to him: recall, indictment, election loss. Each one starts with the implication that it’s only a matter of time. And they never end with the OP acknowledging error.

This is just the break the Charlie Crist campaign…

Okay, I’m not going to be a smartass. Rick Scott is shady. I think we all know he’s shady. I voted for him the first time and I voted for Crist the second time. Rick Scott is unlikely to ever hold any other elected office. In fact, it’s very likely that the next governor will be a Democrat thanks to Rick Scott. That’s how politics works. Unless it’s gross corruption, the wannabe successor is usually the one who pays. It works much the same in national elections.

If, as you insist, this is all speculation about the future, then it cannot be in error, because the future is not currently a fact.

Nevertheless, they are threads about Scott Walker, they are Scott Walker threads; _“soi-disant”_ or “so-called” has no business being connected to the phrase.

Well, I don’t know about that, you never can tell in Florida. It’s a very nearly divided state, Scott won his first term by less than a thousand votes. But the Pubs are solidly in control of both houses of the legislature; it’s a purple state shading towards wine.

global warming will cause the sea to rise and inundate the larger coastal cities like Miami, Tampa and maybe Jacksonville, which will tip the state R-ward, but the state will also thereby lose about half its congressional/electoral influence

You can never know for sure, but any Republican is going to be running to be Rick Scott’s third term and the Republicans’ fifth term overall. THat’s not good when the governor is not popular.

I’m an optimist. I believe that political parties, if not the corrupt candidates themselves, eventually suffer for their actions.

Not in Texas. Be glad you don’t live there. You would be sad indeed there, if corruption dismays you.

I don’t remember what threads you are talking about… but from your description, they sound distinctly different from this one.

Were they bringing up specific detailed allegations (as this OP did)? Or were they just flailing about saying that surely he must be guilty of SOMETHING?
I do, for instance, remember that when Sarah Palin abruptly resigned as governor of Alaska there was a firm belief among some parts of the left that some scandal or crime was about to come out… and it never did. But if that’s the type of phenomenon you’re describing it’s very different from what’s going on here.

:dubious: OK, I guess that’s a reason, Mr. Dumpty, but your contract with the International Brotherhood of Lawyerly Terms requires you to pay _soi-disant_ double-time for such a use.

ETA: It seems that they are indeed threads about an idea of Scott Walker, so while they are only _soi-disant_ “Scott Walker threads” to you, I think they’re pretty much understandable as Scott Walker threads to the rest of us.

A prediction about the future cannot ever have been said to be “in error,” because it did not come to pass?

Really?

Must be a liberal principle of some kind.
