Right! So I can get rid of the mental image of “Bummer” Barnett, the wrinkled old man at my school who was so keen to supervise the boys’ after-gym hygiene. I’m so relieved we’ve got that cleared up.
*goes back to carry on working on his English to American dictionary.
I make my own soap usually with a mix of lard and olive oil and I mix in oatmeal with a stick blender. its scrubby and as far as I can tell olive oil soap is amazing for soft skin, I could see the constant scrubbing abrading your skin with every day use but seriously, bacteria living on the soap? in increasing quantities? like the smaller the bar of soap gets the more bacteria are living on it? that I would have to have some serious proof of.
I’ve used a pouf thingy every day for years. No rashes, no skin infections, and I use a LOT less liquid soap than when I was using cloths. I do use normal soap on my face though, seems to prep it better for shaving afterwards.
The washing machine doesn’t kill enough bacteria to mean much. But the dryer does! Especially if you really get things very dry. You can’t put a nylon pouf into the dryer, but cotton is a miracle fiber. You can heat it near boiling temperature over and over, and it is just fine. If your dryer gets the clothes uncomfortably hot (say 140º F, 60º C), and completely dry, almost nothing can survive it.
