Now, if we’re talking about middle-class Southerners, the same thing applies, except I think a good number of them are ashamed of _other_ Southerners, instead of themselves. Maybe? Heck, I don’t know. It’s not like I try to put this stuff into words very often. ---

The real hardcore rednecks are _proud_ of the fact that they’re not well-educated, etc. They take pride in the fact that they aren’t like “those people”. Racism is an inherent part of their personality. Being a liberal atheist in Alabama is a lot of fun! 😉 ---

The Skoal teeth stained guy with the rebel flag flying from the back of his Bondo preserved truck with the teeth brown from daily Skoal dippin’ and occasional meth smoking who blathers on about what the Ay-rabs and the niggers and the fags are doing to this country twixt games of 75¢ pool on a lopsided table is one form of bigoted ignorant snarking tough-talking trash, but I’d consign him to no lower a ring of the trash circles of Abaddon than I would Budget Cadet Player for dismissing an entire state as a shithole- a shithole by merit of its citizenry, a citizenry which includes me, which includes all of my family and most of my friends- none of whom even know his name, let alone have done him personal harm. The summer heat when you’re in the belly of that beast is brutal. Trust me on this one. Also, try hitting up Flori-Bama. We used to go there and everyone was pretty nice and I figure you may have better luck there (if you haven’t tried it already). Gulf Shores can be kinda snobby. I lived in Robertsdale, Fairhope and Foley for many years. My son was born in Foley. Hell I’ve still got lots of family down there, and am even going back to Fairhope this weekend for a family reunion at the park on the bay. I do enjoy visint down there, but I don’t think I’d want to live there again. I prefer being back here at home in Dallas. BTW, Daphne may be too far of a drive for you, but there are some pretty ok bars there with nice women to meet. At least that’s how it was in the late 90s. Good luck. ---

Truism. . Where I was found in my human infant form in the swamps of south Texas/Louisiana area (Karankawa Indians ROCK!), many people considered Dallas to be full of Yankee Texans. I’ve since lived in LA and San Fran, Denver, Rio Grande valley, Iowa, OKC, Ill, Minn/St.Paul, Houston, and numerous other unknown places, and I have seen regionalistic prejudice everywhere. EVERYWHERE. To quote an old SNL commercial parody, “People are no damn good!” ---

Didn’t even notice that… And Flora-Bama was the source of the second of my two quotes. Although to give a positive story I met some girls from Pensacola who have been very accepting and kind to me. Only problem is they’re an hour away, also have a nice girl from Daphnie that I’m talking to, but again…hour away. ---

Another nice thing about being from Kansas is people I know in the South don’t know exactly what I am (gosh, never heard that one before…). Kansas doesn’t really fit into any “Yankee” or “Southern” profile in their minds, so they basically just treat me as if I was from France. ---

Everything’s up to date in Kansas City! To The South, The West ( midwest may be included in some people’s thoughts) is an odd mix. There are some Yankees that moved Out There, but The West is not full of Yankees. Kind of like Texas. To some, it’s South, but to Texans, it’s Texas. .
