A six-month old baby was shot in Chicago last week. The target was the father, the position the baby was actually in, inside the vehicle, is still unclear. Whether the baby was deliberately shot at as well as the father is unknown, the shooter is still at large. The father was hit but is fine, the baby died after many hours of surgery. It’s horrible, and I have no doubt the father knows who shot him and his baby, but he’s not talking. Scumbags. ---

Not that I blame her a bit, but of course when something like that happens you can’t help but torture yourself with “what ifs”. ---

It’s all very strange - no witnesses but those involved, this mom’s other son was stabbed to death in the commission of a robbery as a teenager; it’s all so [Susan Smith](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Susan_Smith) from the spotty details I’ve read. They picked up two black teens but she said one was a child of 5 years old who ran off first. Something smells very bad here. ---

Y’know, I really hate to bring a gun-debate into this thread as tragic as it is. My heart bleeds for the mum and the family that have to live with the death of their sweet baby boy. But teenagers having guns? For random hold-ups? Just doesn’t happen in countries that view owning guns as the exception rather than the norm. (Yes, I’m sure _some_ of you will dig out a cite that it HAS happened, once, for 20 minutes back in 1964 or whenever), but my point remains. When you, as a society, accept the notion of gun ownership as a fucking inalienable **RIGHT** , then shit like this happens. Sure, the guns probably weren’t owned by the accused, but who fucking cares…they had pretty sweet access to the weapons all the same. And they went and blew a little baby’s brains out…for a few bucks? Or for shits and giggles? Fuck me dead. Grow up America. ☹ ---
