I do actually term some cars penis-cars, but it’s not just because they’re sporty. Your old car definitely would not count. I don’t#hink it would to most people, either. It’s when they’ve added tons and tons of chrome and bling and extra-amazing lights - in London, where it’s never really dark - and, usually, have a personalised numberplate - that I think they might be the kind of person who actually opens those ‘extend your penis!’ emails. Or when they drive those cars then squeal round corners loudly, or park in ways that inconvenience everyone else; that’s partly just because you wouldn’t notice the cars otherwise. Those actions (the bling, the behaviour) do speak of overcompensating for something. I have no idea whether they actually have a small penis or not, but I’m certain that he kind of person who buys a car like that and drives it around is insecure enough to be bothered by that insult. It’s not actually a very fair insult, though, because yeah, it’s not exactly something a man can do anything about, despite what those emails might tell him. But it’s not an insult he’s going to get just from owning a quite nice quite sporty car. ---

Say… 5" platform stiletto heels = slut. While it is very middle-school bullyish, nobody’s really immune from instant judgment. Sometimes you can tell, though, the person’s personality fits the “personality” of their stuff, but generally, there’s more than just one marker (like the car) that leads one to judgment. Douchy car? Check. Acting like a douche? Check. Dressed like a douche? Check. Said something douchy? Check. Hey, I’ve got my whole checklist checked off… must be a douche. ---

Most people who are assholes aren’t compensating for anything. They are just assholes. If you see someone driving like an asshole and you say “He must have a small penis” he is probably just an asshole and you are certainly an unoriginal unfunny douche. Just yesterday I was out car shopping. I decided on a nice car but certainly not the one I would get if I had the money. I was thinking about the usual thought about middle aged men in expensive cars. Must be a mid-life crisis right? Damn it when I can afford a car I’ll finally get it. No crisis involved. Its not about a mid-life crisis its about affluence. If I had the money I would have bought a sports car when I was 20. Or 30, or 40. Damn it still can’t. ---

The “small-penis” reference isn’t so much that a guy has a nice car or something else nice, but is specifically about a guy who is compensating because he’s insecure. It probably has very little to do with his penis size, but its the one real physical attribute that society universally believes men are self-conscious about. I don’t think it’s really the same for women because society tends to put a lot more emphasis on women’s appearances, so there’s not really one aspect that women are universally self-conscious about, moreso because any of those characteristics are plainly obvious. There was the reference to a large vagina, but even that is really more a reference to a woman being slutty than something to really be self-conscious about. I do think it’s a bit silly to assume that anyone who has a nice car is necessarily compensating for something, but there certainly are guys out there who have nice things because they are. But at the same time, you’re not really going to see a guy who has something nice but is still a nice guy be described as compensating or having a small penis and if he just has it because he wants something nice and not because he’s insecure, then such an insult will have no real affect on him anyway.
