When you believe in things that you don’t understand, then you suffer…
Little Nemo–there are people out there who DO NOT use shampoo.
I don’t think I’m brave enough to go No Poo though…I have really thick hair that gets unbelivably nasty if I don’t wash it at least every other day. It’s even worse in summer, when I"m in the pool constantly–if I don’t wash the pool water out of my hair as soon as I’m done, my hair knots up and tries to go all dread-locky on me.
Do vaccines cause autism? I don’t know. I honestly cannot say whether they do or not. Unlike all the stories I’ve read/seen on TV about how parents noticed that their kid went rapidly downhill after recieving this vaccine or that vaccine, I never noticed that with Slim. I think that there’s a distinct chance that since several of my family members (myself included) have learning disorders, he was predisposed to this kind of thing however.
Another thing I don’t buy into is the “Bleach it all NOW NOW NOW!” that the bleach/chemical companies seem to be pushing all the time. I do clean my house–but not with bleach (except in the bathroom). I usually use a vinegar/water solution which seems to work just fine. Slim is one of the healthiest kids I know and I can count on one HAND the number of times he’s gotten sick in his entire life. I like to think that my sensible approach to cleaning things is responsible.
I once had a lady tell me Obama was responsible for 9-11. No, she did not mis-speak. Didn’t mean that other guy.
I regret not asking for details.
Seriously? Did you not fucking notice the “fighting ignorance” thing on the Dope? Did you not realize this Pitting applies to you as well if you are credulous enough to think there is even in the slightest doubt about the non-existence of such a link?
Look up any non-crazy information you want - there is absolutely no basis for thinking there is such a link, except for personal observations that aren’t worth squat.
Repeat after me:
"VACCINES DO NOT CAUSE AUTISM.
VACCINES DO NOT CAUSE AUTISM.
VACCINES DO NOT CAUSE AUTISM.
If I am even ‘unsure’ vaccines cause autism, I need to consider better role models for my children, because my dumbass ignorance that can’t be bothered to look up reputable data might rub off on them."
As for using your own kid as a judge for either vaccines or cleanliness, Og please save your kid from further idiocy. A single data point means diddly in proving a causal link. Great for you that your kid is healthy but it says NOTHING AT ALL about whether your unresearched and incredibly biased notions are correct or not.
Vaccines do not cause autism.
The issue has been repeatedly studied. No evidence has been found. Even in the original infamous Wakefield study it did not state this assertion.
Parents think their children get autism after vaccines because they a) they remember that date and b) they often aren’t aware of subtle signs of autism that show up before then.
Well, they would, of course. They have an obvious interest in selling more bleach. They don’t care if using more bleach has any effect on your house or your health, they care how much bleach you buy.
Speaking of bleach the crazies are currently promoting bleach enemas as a “treatment” for autism:
Bleach enemas.
There are not enough  in the world to express what I think of that…
Well then, it’s a good thing that there are other people who DO know, and from whom you can learn, if you do this thing called “credible research.” Or a search for threads on THIS VERY BOARD about the issue.
Short answer that has been repeated effectively elsewhere: They do not. There is no link between vaccines and autism. The original research that started this myth was fraudulent, and the researcher has been stripped of his medical credentials.
At least they’ll poo white.
 We’ll see about that! We’ll find some way to sap and impurify all of his precious bodily fluids! And he’ll like it!
I’ve been on a run of meeting weirdos lately. A recent one was telling me how he’s really into science and not a religious nut and then proceeded to tell me how all life on Earth came from a single mother 4,000 years ago.
Yes, I stopped him.
We’ll fund a mission for you to find her again, this time armed with a video crew*.

Forget autism. What are they doing about the outbreak of pink eye?
Bleach works on pink, too.
There’s a new treatment that will reduce the duration of pink eye from 2 weeks to fourteen days – BUT THE GOVERNMENT DOESN’T WANT YOU TO KNOW ABOUT IT!
I believe that pinkeye is caused by inadequate bleaching of redeye in the redeye reduction process. MORE BLEACH.
And more cowbell!
I sometimes feel like mentioning the Mitochondrial Eve to these people, but I’m afraid I’ll just encourage them.
The Credulous deserve our sympathy. Not everybody can be part of the “in” crowd.
