I’d ask him whether his outright glee (not satisfaction at stopping fraud, but jumping up and down cheering) is admitting that he’s in favor of these laws because they help Republicans, but I know what he’d say, so I’m not bothering. ---

To his credit, he admits that it is, for some if not all Republicans, a political game to garner undeserved power. He just pretends to believe that the benefits far outweigh the ick factor. And that’s where he gets into trouble, because there is no voter fraud to speak of. Well, that can be explained away, its because the laws make it so hard to catch voter fraud, which may be rampant, for all we know. The other side of that argument is that it may be non-existent, for all we know. He would like to insinuate and imply that the very lack of evidence somehow supports his case, but he knows better than that. Worse, he trumpets the paltry handful of actual cases as proof, while simultaneously insisting that he can’t get proof, because the Dems have stacked the deck against him. Well, which is it, then? “I can’t get the proof, but here it is anyway!”? Then there’s the smaller, but telling points, like the restrictions on voter registration and the take back of “Sunday voting”. He has no rationale to explain those away, certainly not “voter fraud”, unless he wants to somehow insinuate that the League of Women Voters = ACORN. So he does what he has to: he ignores them. Probably for the best, considering. And finally, he falls back to anecdote. Perhaps enough has been said about that. But its kinda like the bad guy in the old Superman shows who fires all his bullets to no effect, and then throws the gun! So, why the cheering? Because he’s pissed, because you hurt his feelings. In **Brickerworld** , tighty righty views should be accorded the same respect as sane and reasonable views, because of balance, and parity, and fairness. In this case, unfortunately for him, the tighty righty case is a Rube Goldberg contraption of half-truth and innuendo trying to mask what is nothing more than a baldly cynical attempt to hold onto waning political power. You don’t buy it, I don’t buy it, and frankly, I don’t think he does either. Boy has his faults, and its a long list, but “stupid” isn’t on it. So, yeah, you hurt his feelings, you’re supposed to give his views equal attention and respect, even if they don’t deserve it. Which is why he’s reduced to channeling **Starving Artist** ’s “Winning! Winning! Winning!” pathology fugue state. He’ll get over it. ---
