So, if the people in the cars he almost hit because you were being an asshole (too) had swerved off the road and into a tree to avoid hitting him, that’d be fine, because it would teach that other asshole a lesson, yes? If someone is trying that hard to get around me, I just slow down and pull over a bit to let them pass safely. Then I don’t have to look at the tailgater anymore, and no one gets hurt. Easy, peasy. ---

I have a hard time believing you give yourself a time out when you find yourself doing the tailgating, yet don’t also drive defensively when you find yourself tailgated. The defensive thing to do is slow a bit, and stay to the right as much as possible, even going over the shoulder a tad if if gives the tailgater room to pass better. You can’t expect the other guy to figure out to cool down like you do yourself. Let the asshole go, plan on laughing at the wreck you pass later and be glad you had no part in it. Your driving record simply means you haven’t been caught. It doesn’t mean you’re a good driver. And it’s pedal. ---

I’ve got 4 or 5 feet of truckbed between me and them, they’ve got a super hot engine ready to explode, what do I care if they wanna’ go crunch, it’s their cojones on the line, not mine. ---

So he tailgated you, so what? That doesn’t give you the right to try to run him into oncoming traffic, not to mention that the oncoming traffic was totally innocent. He should have swerved back into and run you off the road. His assholiness was about a 3, yours was about an 8 to 9. If I’d been a cop and seen you do that shit, you’d be sittin’ in a cell right now. ---

Is there more tailgating going on today than, say, ten years ago? It sure seems like it… T’other day, I’m on the freeway…in the slow lane. Slow lane, but still going 65. (Legal limit.) Jackass crawls right up behind me, within three car lengths. Damn, that’s scary. I don’t speed up. He flashes his lights at me! I don’t speed up. He passes me…making sure that he has two wheels in _my lane_ on the freeway. I did not submit to road rage _behavior_ – I didn’t _do_ anything – but I was furious. This sort of thing seems to be more commonplace today than ever before… Trinopus (road sullen) ---
