What exactly were you suggesting, and how were you proposing it be paid for? Got a link to the thread?

As [I mentioned in a concurrent thread,](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/as-a-responsible-gun-owner-we-as-a-country-need-to-fix-this-gun-violence-problem/965697/156) I think these discussions about solving the gun violence problem, in order to be genuinely productive, are going to have to push back against vague lazy endorsements of “better funding for mental health” on the part of people whose only serious purpose in making them is to deflect attention away from gun regulation proposals. “Focus on mental health” is the new “thoughts and prayers” buzzword among gun-control opponents.

If you don’t think we need stricter gun regulation to address our gun violence problem, and you think the necessary improvements can be effected solely with a better social safety net for mental health problems, then okay, exactly what are you proposing and what resources will it take?
