Just about everything I read showed you to be pretty good, caring, humorous and helpful person. I think the pile-on here–though understandable given the circumstances and that you weren’t more diplomatic in your reaction to it–is out of line given the kind of person you appear to be. I hope this will all be resolved satisfactorily and with no lasting ill will on your part. I think circumstances in this case simply conspired so as to cast you in a worse light than you deserve. That shows that not only have you rectified a wrong, taken responsibility for it (and any inconveniences along the way) and apologize. Then to realize you understand the overall bad place it put the seller in by giving some thought to a little additional money (despite her protestations too!) to cover extra hassles unseen, that is incredibly mature. Really and truly, good for you both. I’m sure everyone involved will have gained something positive from the outcome of y’all’s interaction. ---

Good for you! (And put overdraft protection on your account - especially if you get paid once a month. You may never use it - and hopefully you won’t since you don’t want to pay interest - but one bounced check can lead to hundreds in overdraft fees. Monthly checks ARE harder). ---

Overdraft protection is definitely a good idea. If credit is a problem however, there may be another option, depending on your bank. Some banks offer the option to tie a savings or other account to a checking account, such that if an overdraft is incurred, the extra funds are automatically withdrawn from the ancillary account. My bank charges about $5 for this (which is MUCH less than the $30 they charge for an NSF); other banks may be different. Might be worth looking into if your credit rating isn’t good enough to qualify for standard OD protection. ---
