Clearly we need to have an SDMB Chicks Poker Party. I stopped going to the sales type of party close to 30 years ago after one particularly bad party that combined a “naughty undies” with Mary Kay make-up. No matter what I said to the sales person, she would NOT accept that her lingerie would not fit me (abundant curviness–you wear a size 14–this will fit. No it won’t. Yes it will.) Pressure pressure pressure. I finally said, “ok, I’ll try it on if you promise I don’t have to pay for it if it rips.” It ripped. Made my day. I will compromise and look through the catalogs at work, though. And I have purchased a couple of things from Pampered Chef and found them high quality. Which leads to the ethical question: Does looking at the catalogs count as time-theft since I do it at work? ---

I’ve been to a sex toy party at a friend’s house but it was best for the moments of unintentional humor, like seeing her rock-dumb golden retriever looking eagerly at a massager ball as if he were about to be asked to fetch, or the friend’s straight-laced sister handling the vibes and other items without the least blush. The scrapbooking party that she threw, I somehow ended up being busy that weekend, imagine that. My mother got me some Pampered Chef items one Christmas and I felt bad imagining her spending what had to be too much money for those on me. Thankfully she hasn’t on subsequent Christmases (and I didn’t say a negative thing about the presents), so maybe she was making a friend happy with the purchase and then passing them along; I’m fine with that. I’ve seen those wondercup/adjustable measuring cups first through Alton Brown’s show, and got my set of two via his website. ---

Back when I was a commercial bank branch manager we used to close customer’s checking accounts when they were habitual bad check passers. As part of the process of closing those deadbeat accounts, we sent a series of letters to the account holder warning them of our actions. We at the bank called those letters “Dear Flake/Dummy letters”. The shoe fits in this case, that’s for sure. ---

Whether you get paid once a day, once a week, or once a month - you’re getting the same amount. Are you so fiscally irresponsible that you can’t hold on to your money for the entire month, so you want the company to hold your hand and help you, by spacing out the payments? I hate it, for no other reason than it’s inefficient - it causes double the work for the payroll/accounting staff - what should be a once-a-month process has to be carried out twice. Almost all billing cycles are in monthly periods; salaries should be as well. Typical of us Americans that we can’t hold on to our wallets long enough to ensure money lasts until the end of the month. :rolleyes: ---
