That’s a complete different question, and not one that **tdn** ’s “Christians are such hypocrites” rant raised.

In which case I’m glad to be wrong. And it turns out that only 5% of Americans say donation is against their religion. (I closed the cite, unfortunately.)

But then one wonders why such a thing turned up in such a horrid movie.

Yoink! Thanks, buddy, I’ll take that if you don’t mind. (But really, I am going to start a thread about the hollywood conception of atheists, which consists of nothing more then the stereotype you spotted.

Wife used to work for an organ bank, which turned out to have nothing to do with Wurlitzers but they did have a vault. She said that many small and conservative Protestant Christian congregations teach you must be intact when you are resurrected because it’s real hard to get around Heaven without a heart. How you are supposed to do it when you’ve rotted away to your constituent elements I don’t know.

It was not a rant, and I didn’t call Christians hypocrits. I had a legitimate question, and you answered it. I thank you for that.

Now get off your high fucking horse.

The sad thing is the fellow who wrote this crap is the same guy who wrote the screenplay for “The Omen.” That was a good, scary movie.

Because it’s a fictional miniseries? With rare exception, TV miniseries are often contrived crap with little basis in reality.

I apologize then–your questions seemed to be written in a very cloying and condescending manner, but I obviously misinterpretered it.

Meh, I fault myself. I should have put more emphasis on “in my limited experience” and asked whether it matched reality. That was largely the thrust of my question. Thanks for clearing things up.

Throughout the episode I kept saying “Please don’t say persistent vegetative state, please don’t say persistent vegetative state,” and then they said it.

I guess the suits have finally learned the lesson of _Left Behind_ and _The Passion of the Christ_: There’s a lot of money in the fundie demogarphic. If this does well we can expect more superstitious glurgy crap in the future.

I worry about my country.

If she was quoting the NT, she should have been. If she was quoting the Tanakh she should have been speaking Hebrew. If she was literally quoting Jesus, she should have been speaking Aramaic (I didn’t see it so I don’t know exactly what she quoted). No part of the Bible was written in Latin so there is no logical reason for the girl to channel that language. If she’s going to pick a translation, why not English? It just proves that the people who wrote this are stupid. They don’t even get the Catholicism right from what I’ve read.

Gloom and doom prophet in the Hebrew Bible.

That would be a hell of a note, wouldn’t it? I very recently heard the same “theory” from an acquaintence of mine. It made me wonder. There were various saints/martyrs who had very nasty things happen - beheaded, drawn and quartered, burned, squashed, skinned, nasty nasty stuff. Will these guys be wandering heaven forever all fucked up, like the guys in Beetljuice? It’s idiotic. Catholics are taught that the body is a shell, a tool. You use it while you have it. When you are done with it (pushing up daisies), your soul is still intact and complete. At some point of full physical resurrection, the body is brought back whole and complete, and perfect.

The very conservative fundamentalists who believe that you need an intact body for the resurection probably don’t believe in saints. That’s something for the evil papists. 😉

**SteveG1** , More proof that many of those who are virtually rabid in their “biblical” beleifs haven’t even read the Bible. The NT details that one must exchange bodies, physical and corruptible for heavenly incorruptible.

As far as I understand it, in fundie Protestant theology, the “saints” are the saved in Christ, but not a separate, extra-holy class of saved person and most especially not an object of prayer. Prayer is only to be addressed to God in the name of Jesus, so nix on the prayers to St. Anthony to find your car keys or saying novenas to St. Jude for the Democrats to win an election.

Meant to do that in the other post.

Hey!?

If English was good enough for Jesus, why would God speak Latin?
