I pit the rude audience members who left our performance to watch the fireworks

According to this page Americans are by no means the majority on that ship.

Assuming that the people who left were American (if they were connected with the QM2 at all) is a bit of a knee-jerk reaction, IMO. They could just as well have been British, European, Canadians – or even Aussies.

Check my location, then re-read the snippet you quoted.

Totally. But the audience should have committed to the entire performance or not gone to it at all. Walking out on a live performance is pretty bad.

If anyone walks out of a live performance before it finishes, the only implication is that they don’t think much of it (or, as in this case, that they would rather be somewhere else, which is just as bad). As such, it is hugely disrespectful to the performers - these people should think how they would feel if they were on stage and a large group walked out halfway through.

The only possible excuse would be that they had to be back aboard the ship and did not realise how long the performance was, but that shows ridiculously poor planning (unless the show started late) and doesn’t sound like the reason.

I don’t imagine that the fireworks could be heard inside the Opera House, nor that the music could be heard outside - the one would drown out the other in any case.
