I pit the soon-to-be-named racist lady from Danville, VA (Lowe's delivery story)

I said that? I don’t think so.

My mom grew up in rural Halifax County near Roanoke Rapids in the '60s; at that time, Rocky Mount was considered to be a nice shopping destination (really!). Based on stories she has told me, I believe your father’s story 100%.

I work in Rocky Mount now; while racist attitudes are encountered very frequently, in my experience you’re more likely to hear someone calling for the death of a person for their sexual orientation rather than their skin color.

Yes you did.

Please quote where I said “I don’t want a black doctor.”

I listed an order of preference. Black was not at the bottom. So I don’t know where you’re getting this.

I’m not sure “I would prefer a white doctor” is a significant improvement.

It’s not so often that the bigots here fly their colors so high and bright.

As usual, not just racist, but stupid. Perhaps one of those doctors visits was to remove the ability to reproduce.

The race of the person treating me means absolutely nothing to me. It just astonishes me that there are so many people in which it does. To me, that preference can only be the result of racism.

I’m sitting here trying to think of a reason why a doctor’s skin color would made any difference to me. I can’t come up with anything.

When I was in school from kindergarten to 12th grade, my school had 4 black students (brother, sister and cousins). Not just in my class of 200, but in the entire school. They were 4 of the most popular kids in school.

This area is overwhelmingly white, but I rarely hear racist comments here. I guess I’m lucky.

I rarely hear many racist comments

My physician is a black guy who is either a year younger or older than me (we have discussed age as we are both hypertensive). Skin color isn’t important, but I prefer a PCP close to me in age. Maybe I’m ageist.

Well, what if he was a dermatologist, and his skin was all fungal grey-green with splotches of eczema here and there ?

Maybe he goes to the other dermatologist.

Very well done.

I think a lot of people have this idea that the person who accommodated the request must have been a Manager (capital M) with lots of authority and training. In all likelihood, the person who accomodated the request was probably a dispatcher with little or no training on this sort of thing.

Your post was very difficult to decipher, so if people misunderstand it’s your fault. I initially thought you were just saying you wouldn’t want to be treated by your friends who are doctors or dentists, but then at the end you said “but I’m not a racist.” So I have no clue what you meant, but if you avoid some of your “friends” because of their race, you’re a racist. That doesn’t necessarily mean you’re a horrible person, just that you’re more honest than most people.

I guess I’m a racist too then. In retrospect, it appears all the women I dated were white when I was single.

Why does this argument always come up in these discussions? More importantly, why do people think this is a relevant argument in the context of these discussions?

Some of my best friends date black girls.

Perhaps they’re just better at math than you are.

Nicely done, sir or madam or dog :).

Now they’re saying THREE managers were fired.

Brooks, who is white, added, “The weekend before this delivery, everybody told us that this woman in the store wouldn’t deal with any of the black customer service representatives or salesmen. She said she didn’t want any black delivery drivers, so they knew beforehand.”
From the above link.

Well, looks like more heads will roll. WTF did they accommodate this bitch when she was such an ass in the store? That would have been the time to send her packing.
