I pit the SovCit movement... For a different reason

There are multiple YouTube channels dedicated to traffic stops and the resulting courtroom hilarity.

I was just watching one the other day, from Ireland, where the guy kept citing US law and US Supreme Court rulings.

Yes, it was just as stupid as it sounds.

No you don’t.

At least not more than once. Assuming you can ever get them to shut up about it in the first place.

I explained to my brother that, even if the government is completely illegitimate, they are still going to arrest him and take him to jail. He can complain all he wants that it’s illegal as they drag him away in handcuffs.

So, he complained that it was illegal while they dragged him away in handcuffs. He complained it was illegal while he was held in jail, and he complained that it was illegal that he was convicted and sent to prison.

He was given so many outs. The court didn’t want him in jail, they offered various diversions and assistance, but he refused them all, giving them no choice but to incarcerate him.

I tried using the analogy of the Mafia. The Mafia may have no legal authority over you, but they do have power over you. Ignore them at your own peril.

Anarchists are so much more reasonable about the government. They don’t like it, but they don’t deny its existence. They recognize that its power comes from the end of a gun. And that’s a real power. SovCits seem to think that government is a mystical substance like phlogiston, or correct grammar.

No, they keep on keeping on. Like a little thing like being arrested and sent to jail for a couple years would be enough for them to learn their lesson.

I find myself watching them to see if I recognize anyone.

You have my sympathies. :worried:

I’d argue it amounts to basically the same thing. If you look at those videos. Neither the Anarchists or the SovCit are denying the existence of the judge, and their power to enforce their wishes at the point of a gun. They are both just denying the legitimacy of those actions. One of them for coherent, fairly well thought out (if somewhat impractical reasons) the other for utterly batshit nonsensical reasons.

I could only take about five minutes of that delusional behavior. I have to believe that judges that have to deal with these morons must go home and drink themselves to sleep.

There’s a mantra I use sometimes at work, “It’s all pensionable time.”

To be fair, they are often dealing with drug addicts and violent criminals.

Someone just wielding ineffective words is probably a relief to them.

Judges should have a large roll of red duct tape front and center on their desks as a visual reminder.

I love the judge who muted the SovCit as soon as he realized the guy was just going to rant. Doing court via teleconference has its benefits.

I just read an article in the Alaska paper about scofflaws, many of whom are, I’m guessing, sovcit types, while others are just bums and assholes. The article profiled a woman and her two grown sons. Between them they have had some 30 cars impounded and owe $12,000 in back fines and penalties for everything up to and including a felony or two. The woman has no license and no insurance (and no job skills), yet continues to drive these junkers until they’re either impounded or die.

Sadly, people like sovcits see Alaska as some sort of paradise where they can “live free”, so they find their way up North and are then shocked that the penal system works exactly the same way there as anywhere else, and is as humorless about this crap as anywhere else. Perhaps even more so.

I love the judge in one of those videos suggesting that, if they really believed what they claim to believe, they would simply ignore the “illegitimate” court summons altogether, and encouraging the defendant to use that technique in the future.

I lived in The Springs for a couple years and up here in Weld County, they outRed The Springs every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Has El Paso County ever tried to secede to Wyoming because Colorado is too liberal?

Have you seen the one from Australia where the cop grabs the partially opened window and yanks it in one motion to break it? That was epic.

Oh no. I would say if they truly believe what they say, that the Judge strips them of their citizenship and deports them to North Korea.

“Have you seen Mad Max? The original Mad Max? Don’t fuck with an Aussie cop!”

My favorite;
Judge: Is Bob Smith in the court room?
Bob, of the Family Smith: I am appearing as the Agent of the Living Man known as Bob Smith.
Judge: Since Mr. Smith is not in the court room I’m going to issue an arrest warrant for failure to appea…
Bob Smith: Wait you’re honor! I am Bob Smith!

My dad used to say, ‘It all counts on thirty.’
