Oh my. I don’t know what else to say.

There isn’t anything remarkable about this, since salesmen will do this all the time to demonstrate their product. Most people will put a phone book or something under the vest, since it will usually leave a bruise as this guy found out.

If you get shot in the heart, then that is dangerous, since it can cause fibrillation. Better vests will have a ceramic or metal plate over the heart to prevent that.

Actually, I don’t think it would be a bad idea if we required people to take an IQ test before buying a gun. Or at least a sort of “Gun Safety 101” test. Like, “If you saw something on tv that pissed you off, would you shoot your screen out?” Or, “True or False: firing a gun in the air is a great way to ring in the New Year.” Stuff like that.

Just to weed out the morons. (NGL, I was giggling the whole time I was watching that)

Considering the fact that just about everybody in the United States had to pass a written test and an examination to get a driver license, it doesn’t seem to help.

Wait… he tested something that is supposed to work and it worked?

Mmh. Yeah. Don’t really see how he’s supposed to die here, to earn his Darwin.

I don’t think that’s how you’re supposed to test it.

So, you’re offended by the writer calling for the outlawing of guns, but not by his calling for the extinction of mankind? :dubious:

Eh. I think we all kind of understand where he’s coming from on THAT part.

Well, if you _test_ something then presumably you are expecting a chance that it might _not_ work, otherwise why bother testing it? If you change the word to “demonstrate” then I kind of agree with you, but then I’m not about to “demonstrate” that a safety catch works by pointing a gun to my head and pulling the trigger, would you?

Neither am I, and there have been those that have died demonstrating the safety of their product…

I don’t know that much about guns, but I don’t think what he did was as dumb as it looks, but I wouldn’t take any chances. I am pretty sure at a certain level you can be pretty certain about a bullet not penetrating, but I still think you can get broken bones and such.

Guys that choose to be around guns are always taking a risk - it seems fairly dangerous to me, but with the number of idiots in the world PLUS massive firepower available - doesn’t seem as many get hurt as I would think.

A friend of mine was telling me this morning about how his son has been agitating for a BB gun, because one of his friends has one. A week or so ago, the son went out into the woods with his friend to shoot at stuff, and he got interested in learning how much a BB hurts when it hits. He decided to shoot himself in the foot, expecting the BB to bounce off his shoe. It didn’t bounce off.

The son hobbled home, bleeding, and my friend explained that this was why he couldn’t have his own BB gun, because he’s too stupid. After bandaging up the toe, the son remarked, “What worries me is that I couldn’t find the BB.” Sure enough, the next day he was unable to walk, and an X-ray revealed that the BB was lodged under his toenail. Surgery is apparently imminent.

That guy’s shorts are way too tight and creepy, and the white socks really polish off the outfit

When this type of thing happens in my neck of the woods, it’s usually preceded by someone saying, “Hold my beer and watch this!”

And no, being under 21 generall does not reduce the probability.
