Yes, yes he does.

While playing the tango on his bongos in the Congo, I might add.

But he never listens to he car radio while he does it, though. 😃😉

Hi Torgo!

Amendment XIII:

The Bill of Rights is Amendments I through X. All the constitutional amendments are just as much a part of the US Constitution as the original unamended text.

Back on topic… at-will employment means that advance notice is a courtesy. In the OP’s case, I recommend cashing the paycheck, THEN telling the smoker to stick eir smokes, and the job, up eir tight ass. Screw advance notice – if you can’t stand the working conditions, get out fast.

Yes, but does Torgo play the tango on his bongos in the congo with the Hands of Fate while the master is away?

What would they sue for, breach of contract? Unless you have a specific, written contract with your employer (which I, personally, have never had), I don’t think they could legally sue. One of the few powers workers have left is the power to not show up, and therefore not get paid. I think the only danger would be if he was paid for work that he hadn’t done yet, in which case the employer would be within his legal rights to expect the work to be done or the money repaid. Working agreements aren’t worth the breath it takes to agree to one - just agree to one, have your employer renege on it, and see how far the courts support you.

Bitter, me? Oh no, not at all. If you’ll excuse me, I have to get back to my job search now, since I had to leave my employment due to harassment.

Yeah, I think that’s what I was going for. But like I said, IANAL and I don’t know for sure.

Quite right. I am more of a “Lurkity Yak.” I try to only post on things I know about rather than run the risk of looking like an asshat.

Mind you, it doesnt seem to stop many others from doing posting willy-nilly, but I like to play it safe, so to speak. 😉

Let me get this right. You’ve already done all the work, put up with his shit, and hacked and wheezed; so your reward is to let him bad mouth you should you need a reference? Don’t know what the job market is like where you are, but I’d think long and hard before burning my bridges with this guy so quickly. You may never want to work for him again, but making a professional enemy seems a little short-sighted, and he doesn’t seem like the type that will take this lightly. Hopefully, your next job will work out great, and you’ll never need a reference from this guy, but you never know. Be a professional. Smile. Give your regrets, and curse his existence under your breath as you leave. It sucks, but you’re better serving your own interests in the long run (been there - trust me).

Well, this is likely the case. But he seemed to be suggesting that _even if as asked if there was by the OP a law requiring two weeks notice_ it’d be OK to quit.

Nahhh, this was just a temporary gig in between jobs. This is a two guy operation doing exterminating, of all things. I told him up front that this was temporary for me and that, when something comes up, I’m out. This isn’t an organized situation where two weeks notice would be the norm.

Not really concerned about burning bridges. But, there won’t be any burned bridges anyway. I’ve been at it for only a month in a training capacity and, once I tell him that I’m taking this other job, he won’t want me around since I’ve just been sidling up to his other worker just sort of getting my feet wet. Not generating any revenue on my own. He’s want to bring someone in right away to start training as, this, apparently is about to begin the busy season.

Of course, if my intent was to stay in the exterminating business, it might be a probablem. But, if that was my intent, I wouldn’t be leaving this wondering situation.

fyi, I’m a computer network engineer. Is it any wonder why I don’t see myself picking up dead rats all day and having to hear a pitch on how to sell exterminating services to unsuspecting homeowners and prey on their fears that, “You know, if you don’t get this termite service, you can’t refinance your home because I’ll fail your inspection!”

Wonderful existance, that!

Sorry, couldn’t resist 🙂
