I quit my job, can *I* have a cookie?

[hijack] Thank You misstee The feeling is infinitely mutual [/hijack]

I think when you go in to get your check you should bring in some of those cookies and demonstrate exactly how happy you are with the current circumstances. Hand out a whole batch of cookies and sing, “Auld Lang Syne.”

And this morning I got a new job! I will put the cake down.

Do write a proper letter of resignation to the CEO explaining why you’ve quit. You may just find yourself promoted.

Uhh, let me just have a look in my pantry. Be back in a moment.

Yeah, here you go. I hope peanut butter’s okay?

I brought some pecan shortbread cookies…congratulations! I’m jealous…(even if I am posting from work.)

When I went in to pick up my paycheck, the area manager was there and gave me the " I understand, but I am disappointed in you" lecture. Guys, you would have been proud. I told her that if she truely understood, she wouldn’t be disappointed in me, because when it comes down to my kids vs my job, my kids are going to win. And if she were doing her job, things wouldn’t have turned out this way, either. I asked her if she had ever lied to me. She said no, I asked again, are you sure you never lied to me. She again said no, she had never lied. Then I told her I was glad I was done working for her, becuase I don’t like working for someone who was less than honest with me. Then, to back my own statements up, I pulled out a print out of an e-mail that she had sent out to jerk manager, just a few days ago. Also, I had other documentation that showed that she had lied to me. Her face turned awful red, and she then said that maybe it was for the best that I was done. I left with a smile.

Well done, Frannie! Drinks are on you, next time.

It’s a damn good thing, too. We all took a vote, and we found out that we were very worried about you having a cake after being made redundant. So, I called the Wokingham police:

It was all very disturbing. It’s like we spoke a different language.

So, congrats on the new job, Francesca!

So, misstee, do you have any plans other than to stay home and take care of your kids for a while? Do you think you might go to a competitor and look for employment?

Also, is it worth it, do you think, to take those print-outs and give them to someone higher than your area manager? (And if you’re willing to do so, I’d be interested in reading about how she lied to you. After working in retail for many years when I was younger–'cause I’m so old and all–I have very little good things to say about district or area managers. )

I’m glad you’re happy that you’re out of there! If you decide to go back out and look for a new job, I wish you all the best luck!

Daaaaaaamn, misstee. I’m proud of you.

Here’s a hug. And another cookie.

Today is my last day at this job, it’s my birthday, and I start a new job in 12 days - heck with the cake, I want a bakery!

Susan

Mistee why not get the misskids bake you some cookies ? Or would that be too dangerous?

Francesca I just put a hot cup of tea in the postbox for you. What am I going to do now?

misstee you are truly a class act! I wish I could have seen that.

Here you go, misstee. Raspberry-filled, dark chocolate-dipped butter cookies. My mom’s special recipe. You earned them.

AHHH, the new year has begun. I was told about another job just last night. I am thinking about looking in to it. stormchaser and I talked about it this morning. He told me if I didn’t want to work, so I could spend more time with the kids, that was ok. The job I was told about last night is a position at my kids’ school. I would only be working when they were at school. No weekend, no summer days, no teacher inservice days…

I will be thinking about it over the weekend.

Thanks for all the cookies, guys.

One door closes, another opens.

Timewise, this sounds perfect. Except it probably doesn’t pay very well.

Hee! Glad to know you were so concerned for my wellbeing, SkipMagic.

You’re right, the pay isn’t great, but its still a little bit and I would get to be with my kids, which is way more important than lots of money at this time.

When my youngest child is 18, I will be 40. I can have a whole career between then and retirement.

Good on you, misstee. A job that doesn’t give a whit for your family life isn’t worth keeping. It’s too bad your managers don’t or can’t see that (or if they have a family that they care to be around much). I wish you the best in finding a job that’s right for you, whether it be at home or outside the home. The school job sounds like a winner. That your kids will be able to see you whenever they’re out of school is great, and it should make your bonds with them grow that much stronger.

One thing about retirement though – you should be putting money away for that now in some fashion (IRAs or 401k or whatever) while you’re young. Don’t start at 40 and hope it will be enough (it never is). Just some advice to think about.

I have an extra chocolate chip cookie here. Have one and I’ll go get some more.

You jammy bastard! I can’t decide whether to be happy for you or insanely jealous.

Oh hell, just give me the cake and I’ll go sulk quietly in a corner somewhere.
