We get farther and farther from the original ideas. I thought **I, Robot** , despite some good ideas, was overall a pretty rotten adaptation of Asimov’s book and ideas (which it undeniably was, since it wasn’t really a dramatization of his work), and ultimately a downright reversal of his ideas and themes. But it was successful box office. Kinda like **Starship Troopers**. ST spawned a series of CG straight-to-video sequels (and a live action one). I have to point out that I, Robot wasn’t an adaptation of, but rather inspired by Aasimov’s work. They basically just took the concept of the Three Laws and ran with it in their own direction. I think it was disingenuous to name it after one of Aasimov’s books, but beyond that it wasn’t intended to be a book-to-movie deal. I was able to enjoy the movie quite a bit after disconnecting it from that expectation. ---

I still couldn’t enjoy it as a stand-alone, though, because it essentially went against the spirit and philosophy of Asmov’s works so completely, and fed into long-held and unoriginal ideas. (And no amount of dragging up “‘’'that thou art mindful of him” changes any of this) ---
