# I saw Amelie last night

I rented the video on a spur of the moment whim because of the postive mentions here a while ago. I watched it with the kids last night , and I must say it _was_ delightful. Thanks for the recommend dopers!

Yea great movie. Besides a great storyline and cinematography it actually used special effects to an emotional effect.

I saw it for the first time a little over a week ago, and it is now one of my favorites. The scene where she’s taking pictures of the clowds and they distinctly resemble the rabbit and teddy bear is just great. And the actress is SOO CUTE!!! The character’s unwillingness to just go for it towards the end really kept getting on my nerves, but it was still great. Hard to believe it was made by the same guy who made **Alien Ressurrection** , huh? But **The City of Lost Children** is one of my favorite movies, and although I haven’t seen it yet, I’ve heard **Delicatesin** is stupendous. If you haven’t seen this movie, you should definitely check it out.

I found Amelie delightful! My GF suggested it, and I loved it!
KidCharlemagne is right - it’s a great example of a film using special effects as a tool to tell a story, rather than having them take over the story. Reminds me of Forrest Gump in that way - not a special effects movie, but one in which their use was excellent.

You watched it with your kids? How old are they? There are a couple scenes in there that I wouldn’t want little kids to see, certainly. Overall, it’s very cute, but it’s a French movie, and for adults. These two things add up to stuff like casually handling and pricing of certian, um, marital aids. Just a note for those of you who haven’t seen it.

My only complaint about **Amelie** is that it made me kick myself for renting it–because I had to just turn about and immediately order a copy. I could have freed up that rental slot in my queue, dagnabbit.

If you loved Amelie, you should rent Bread & Tulips. Another delightful little film, but it’s set in Venice. 🙂

I thought it had too many subplots and lasted a little longer than necessary, but overall a very sweet film. Loved the cinematography (And the guy who played Nino… yum!)

I really, really liked the pictures in her house.
My favorite part of the movie is when she led the blind man through the street. I have to admit I teared up during that scene, and can’t explain why.

I thought the movie was super sweet (in a good way) - pretty much every scene had something great about it. I agree with the blind man scene as a highlight - that had this strange energy that my favourite movie scenes have, where I’m on the edge of my seat, not for the sake of wondering what will happen next, but just enjoying what’s happening.
I also particularly loved the music (and it’s helped me to become a bit of a Francophile regarding movies and music in particular).

She has the most gorgeous smile - like she knows the most wonderful secret in the world. I hired _Amelie_ to the dismay of my boyfriend but we were giggling throughout the film and by the end we both had huge grins on our faces.

Isn’t he hot? He’s actually a Lancome model now–I see him every so often in magazine ads or in department stores. I always do a double take: “Is that Nino?”
I loved _Amelie_. It’s such a delightful movie–I’m interested in seeing the other movie she was in. I think it’s called _Happenstance_. Has anyone seen it?

I know this is an old thread, but I rented “Amelie” over the weekend and thought it was delightful. I’m planning on buying a copy for my mom for Xmas.
The clerk at the video store said “You know this is subtitled, right?” Apparently some customers complain about that. I despise dubbed films and told her so. Except for things like “Godzilla.” 😃

I rented it a couple weeks ago and quickly saw why so many liked it.
I was especially pleased that I was able to figure out who the mystery picture guy was at the same moment she did. (Only she got to see more than his shoes.) I like “figuring stuff out” and I kick myself for not getting it sooner (but which is a good thing in terms of movie watching).
I thought the gnome stuff was actually trite and I ignored it for the purposes of enjoying the rest of the movie.
