I assume this is something that is being worked on for those of us with paid subscriptions? Or is this something we’re going to have to put up with? ---

I was wondering the same thing. I just re-upped my membership before we moved, and not having to put up with ads is a major incentive for continuing to be a paid member. (I’d be willing to pay more than I do for that convenience.) ---

So far, the ads I’ve seen were embedded in someone’s post, which is a bit disconcerting. At least with the theme I’m using (Sam’s Simple), there isn’t all that much to distinguish the ad from some paragraph in that Doper’s post. ---

I think what’s especially disconcerting about the ads is that their texts so closely mimic the post in which they’re embedded. Often, the very same phrase or sentence! Me no likey. ☹ ---

Nope, no ads, but there is the outline of a box with the word, “Advertisement”, inside of it. I’m assuming it was filtered out because I’m a paid member. Look, we have to expect some bugs. Be patient! ---

I just realized I’m not seeing ads because I’m running adblockers. Turned em off and I see ads. ---

What I’m seeing now is the word “Advertisement” in a huge blank area. I do run ad blockers (Disconnect and Privacy Badger). ---

I am seeing ads plus white-space labeled “Advertisement”. I am a paid member yet I am labeled Guest. If/when this is corrected, I will re-up my subscription. Gladly. I know we are going through teething pains, but the above should have been carried over. Evidently Discourse is telling me my “Trust” level is not high enough. I want what I paid for dadgummit. I headed this way because I hadn’t seen any ads in a few hours, just the “ADVERTISEMENT” in small caps where an ad might be. So I was gonna say the ad problem had been fixed, at least for me. But on the main page of the Site Feedback forum just now, there was an ad for the Red Cross. So some ads are still getting through to me. I’m sure TPTB will fix this bug sooner or later. I’m willing to live with a few ads in the meantime. 🙂 ---

Sometimes I see ads, sometimes just the “Advertisement” blank block. I’m going to guess that we see the latter when there aren’t enough paid advertisements, so it’s just a placeholder. The question is, does the SDMB have any control over whether any specific person sees ads? If not seeing ads is based on Trust Level, then maybe they’ll have to give paid members an artificial level that’ll turn them off. ---

Is there any value in clicking on the little “x” and reporting the ad as _inappropriate_? I’ve done it about 20 times today, just for fun. ---

I’m an idiot. Those weren’t ads I saw embedded in posts — they were boxes containing previews to a poster’s links! They sure look like ads. Big headline, an image, some text… I don’t like these — they take up space and energy from the actual post. If I want to see a link, I’ll click on your bit of linked text, thank you very much. ---

I too am getting ads. I’m looking at one from “Upwork” now. I can thus far only access this new SDMB site from my work computer (it won’t recognize me on my home computer but that’s another lament) and I can’t add ad blocker software to the work system. ---
