# I sure hope CairoCarol is OK

Just remembered who it was - @Mangosteen. I tend to assume he stopped posting because he disagreed with the Dope’s political zeitgeist (I think he is or was a Trump supporter) but I don’t really know for sure. Anyhow, the bat signal is out now on the off chance he is on the Big Island and wants to contribute his impressions of the current volcanic goings on.

We had friends visiting from Thailand last month, and they traveled to the Big Island, missing Mauna Loa by two weeks. But they were still suitably impressed with Kilauea.

One thing a lot of people don’t realize is how big the Big Island of Hawaii is. It’s not called the Big Island without reason, being the same size as the other seven main islands combined almost twice over. During Kilauea’s fresh 2018 eruption, a CNN reporter was asking local officials if there were any contingency plans to evacuate the island. Which was a real head-slapper of a remark, because evacuating, say, Australia or Borneo would be not that much more daunting.
