That’s it, I’m getting a bear!
Do you always start your conversations this way?
Yes…floodlights in front. I have two sets in the backyard. (Although, on the second break-in, the person simply unscrewed the bulbs.)
The problem in front is I only have one light fixture in the front. Right now, I have a standard porch light there. What I want is a combination motion sensor flood light/porch light. I.e., I want a porch light that stays on at night, with a flood that comes on if someone approaches the house. I’m not the only one…my Google-fu revealed others asking if the same thing exists. If it does, we all can’t find it.
But I did find something close. I can’t explain it so I’m going to link it:
What I could do is by a two-bulb flood fixture…hook up just one of the motion sensor thingamobobs from the link above, and then have the second bulb socket be a continuous porch light (they make light sensitive sockets to screw into there).
It’s important to me to have a porch light always on at night. I think it looks neighborly and friendly. As much as I want to deter burglars, I also want my house to be…I don’t know. It’s hard to explain. I just think people should have front porch lights on at night.
If I was casing houses in a ’ pretty sketchy neighborhood…lots of crime, especially burglaries’, I’d bring a dog with me too.
slight hijack
I think I saw a pair of people getting ready to steal my car last week. I was at a strip mall getting a charger at a Radio-shack after 8PM & near closing time. The parking lot was dark & fairly empty. It was a guy & girl in their twenties, both with hands on my car at the rear window, that i saw as i exited the store. When I started to angle my walk towards my car, they both seemed startled & drifted over to the car next to mine, doing a peas & carrots type conversation while looking at me out of the corner of their eyes. They were still staring at me and my car when I drove off.
At first I thought it couldn’t possibly be; who brings a date to grand theft auto? But then I guess you’d need someone to drive the one you came in home, huh?
/slight hijack
Definitely casing your place. I, and a few friends of mine, have had this exact scenario happen (though sans dog.)
Glad you got more lights. Still think ya should get a dog. He or she would be a great companion and keep the bastards away.
As I came out of WalMart last night there were three teens standing aorund my car. One was peering in and seemed to be cataloging the contents. (It was full of bags from the earlier Target stop.) They seemed especially interested int he GPS.
I hit the panic button (lights, horn honking, etc.) and they ran across the parking lot, obviously panicked. When I got to the light they were standing on the corner laughing nervously: One of them appeared to have peed himself.
That’s awesome. Truly.
Now what are you wheelbarrow/six fingered people on about?
I also think that was awesome.
And the wheelbarrow/six fingered thing is a reference to The Princess Bride.
