I think I almost got arrested...

Hey - we went to the same college! Were you pulled over by a city cop or a campus cop? The campus cops had a bit of a reputation for rudeness while I was there.

Every time I’ve been pulled over in a city area (which thankfully isn’t that many) I’ve driven to a point where I could get out of traffic to make it safer for both me and the officer. None of them have ever complained about my doing so and some have even thanked me. Based on your post I think you are just dealing with an over zealous individual.

It was a campus cop. They still have that reputation for rudeness, too:)

Well there’s your problem! :stuck_out_tongue: Take him with a grain of salt, he overreacted. Most other cops are perfectly ok with you pulling out of traffic.

What? How does a routine traffic stop mean you almost got shot? I speed. A LOT. I’ve probably been pulled over a dozen or more times in the ten years I’ve been driving, and I once got jailed for a week for going almost double the posted speed limit, but I have never once been concerned about being shot.

Cause he reached under his seat without warning and pulled something out. A lot of cops will fear that the item is a gun, when in this case it was just a front license plate. You don’t yank out objects from concealment when dealing with a cop unless you want to risk your hide and/or piss off the cop.

Oh. Duh. I somehow completely missed the “due to my own cluelessness” part of the sentence. I feel pretty dumb.

Don’t worry – the way I phrased it was probably a bit obscure; it was one of those “had to be there” moments, in a way, with a deputy suddenly screaming at you to keep your hands in view.
