That’s total BS, man. Archaeology has proven time and time again that the events of the Bible are not myth. I’ve never heard of one archaeological find that contradicts the Bible either. Years ago, atheists were boldly claiming that the Hittites of the Bible were myth too until archaelogy made them look like morons.
Wow, atheists apparently don’t know it all! lol

Probably because you carefully avoid reading anything from actual archaeologists. Whether you like it or not, plenty of the Bible has been proven false.

False. As has already been pointed out to you, there never was a global flood. Not ever. Thus, the Tanakh is at least part myth. Since the Bible incorporates the Tanakh, that makes the Bible part myth.
(Is this your thesis, that you will offer up a poorly defended apologia for anything at all related to Christianity?)

This should be an Onion headline.
“Hittites shown to have actually existed, also archeology shows that they were totally a bunch of morons.”

GEEPERS, you have given some reasons why God doesn’t heal amputees – sin, and all that there. But here are some reasons that need to be included in the discussion:[ol][_]God doesn’t exist[_]God can, but doesn’t wannaGod has limited powers, and can’t.[/ol]Now of all the possible explanations, which one(s), including your suppositions and these, fits the data the best?

The Hittites formed a series of polities in north-central Anatolia, including the kingdom of Kussara (before 1750 BC), the Kanesh or Nesha Kingdom (c. 1750–1650 BC), and an empire centered on their capital, Hattusa (around 1650 BC). As for archeological finds, the evidence is not kind with many of the tales of the bible.

And for a long time it was thought to work. [William Foxwell] Albright, the great father of our discipline, often spoke of the “archeological revolution.” Well, the revolution has come but not in the way that Albright thought. The truth of the matter today is that archeology raises more questions about the historicity of the Hebrew Bible and even the New Testament than it provides answers, and that’s very disturbing to some people.

But no one has found a text or an artifact in Egypt itself or even in the Sinai that has any direct connection. That doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. But I think it does mean what happened was rather more modest. And the biblical writers have enlarged the story.

Yet to date, the evidence that has claimed to support the existence of Solomon and other early kings in the Bible has been highly controversial. In fact, so little physical evidence of the kings who ruled Israel and Edom has been found that many contend that they are no more real than King Arthur.

All the technology and cameras in the world can never outdo God preserving your right to live in a reality without any evidence of Him:)

So your theory is that god maintains two (or more) realities coexisting at once within the same space and time, correcting any glitches between them on the fly, just so he can hide miracles from the people who don’t already believe in miracles ? Doesn’t that sound like a lot of unnecessary effort to you ?

Not to mention that the big guy never seemed all that coy about stopping the Sun to freak out unbelievers, for example. Or did he part the seas for Moses, but to the Egyptians it looked like the Israelites were just taking a bath ; and if so, if Pharaoh did not see the sea parting, why would he have sent his chariots into the sea ? Did the people of Sodom & Gomorrah who didn’t believe never get rained brimstone on, the people who didn’t believe not get washed away by the Flood ?
… Cause I gotta tell you, in that case not believing seems a whole lot safer 😛

Funny thing, I know miracles are possible, and it is not only non-beliebers that know that, agnostics like me also go for the second definition in the dictionary: “A highly improbable or extraordinary event, development, or accomplishment.” there is no need for signs, the evidence is already there that miracles do happen. It is just that they do not come or depend on what you think they do.

Knowing that miracles are unlikely anyhow, I rather look at science applied to medicine to make the impossible possible:

Personally, I don’t believe a word of the Bible until it is supported by external evidence like archaeology or contemporaneous documents. But even if it was 100% fictitious, there is still a moral dimension to how people talk about it. Hannibal Lector is a fictional character, but I would be disgusted by anyone who defended his behavior. It’s not just about whether things actually happened, it’s about how your view of the story reflects on your sense of morality.

People are supposed to take you seriously when you say things like this:

A tribe of people practiced child sacrifice of _some_ of their children (which I don’t condone one iota), so it’s morally justified to kill _ALL_ of their children. Anyone who would refer to any ethnicity as “human garbage” is morally compromised. You go on by endorsing preemptive murder in the form of genocide.

Doesn’t that sound like a lot of unnecessary effort to you ?

To me, no not at all; we are talking about God almighty here after all who watches after every entity and nothing is difficult for. To me we are all God’s children. God is not raising human children, but raising child gods (us). As child gods we are being taught to be gods. Part of that is the ability to create the reality we inhabit.

A philosophical question, can a all mighty God forget He is a God. We are the answer to that question. So what happens if God makes Himself mortal, He should have that power if He is almighty, again we are the answer to that question. If we believe in the physical world only that is the reality we create for ourselves. It is using our god power in exactly that way.

Also I know that I’m switching between Almighty God and us, but the reason is they are the same and is the meaning of the Hebrew saying ‘God is One’ in the Shema (prayer).

Who knows what the Egyptians saw, but we have some idea from what the world came up with, like not the Read Sea, but the swampland called the Sea of Reads, which with a strong wind in a certain direction drains to dry land. God is indeed merciful and to the egyptians they could have just got their chariots stuck in the mud and decided to turn back rather then risk losing the equipment. But in God’s eyes the Egyptians fell that day to a ‘lower’ level of reality and could no longer touch the Israelites. They were effectively defeated.

While Lot’s wife did save many of Sodom, Yes I believe the rest just fell into a lower level of reality. On a soul level they got burned up to ashes, but on their level life went on as expected and most likely fell onto very hard times such as our great depression or worse.

My take on it is 1: Ask for help & guidance 2: Procede as you would normally in this world (including medical help) unless the guidance seems valid.

I have heard of those who knew they were going to be healed of conditions, so they put off treatment for years, they when it was overly bad they went for the treatment and got a miracle cure beyond what the treatment would accomplish and the message that they were always suppose to continue normally in this world’s treatment to receive the healing.

It’s in scriptures that some people see things that others do not, it doesn’t matter what the ‘vast majority’ of Christians (or for that matter Hindus, Islamics or even democrats) say.

I believe it is also the reason for the apparent contradictions in scriptures. It is God showing us that there is various realities.
