Once I mailed the princely sum of $15 in an envelope and it arrived, so it would probably work for $5. ---

She offered to send cash, but I wanted no part of that. What if it “never arrived” (i.e. she never sent it) and she accused me of pocketing it? Even at that stage I was cautious. At least with a check she can’t accuse me of cashing it if it never existed. ---

Send her the pen, it will be good for your Karma. As a Southerner, I can testify that while they sometimes may be mean as hell, Southern Little Old Ladies do not cheat. ---

The accusation itself is painful enough to avoid. Better to be above suspicion. ---
